{"id":1189,"date":"2012-04-24T13:29:32","date_gmt":"2012-04-24T17:29:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/dailyjoys\/?p=1189"},"modified":"2012-04-24T13:29:32","modified_gmt":"2012-04-24T17:29:32","slug":"thinking-of-my-truest-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/dailyjoys\/2012\/04\/thinking-of-my-truest-friends.html","title":{"rendered":"Thinking of My Truest Friends.."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I saw this quote in an email this morning:<br \/>\nThe music is not in the notes, but in the silence between.<br \/>\n&#8211; Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, 1756 &#8211; 1791<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>It brought to mind my circle of dearest friends.\u00a0 A few close at hand and most in other parts of the world.\u00a0 We do<\/p>\n<p>not enjoy a daily cuppa something together.\u00a0 Our exchanges often are matters communicated in ways difficult<\/p>\n<p>to define: through the heart, not technology.\u00a0 These friendships are supported, however, by technology.\u00a0 Most<\/p>\n<p>times, when my phone rings in the other room, I have a sense of who it will be.\u00a0 And because I am connected<\/p>\n<p>to my friends as easily in silence as in words, I am most often correct.\u00a0 I am grateful that my friendships are<\/p>\n<p>fueled by companionable understanding, deep knowing, mutual respect and profound laughter and compassion.<\/p>\n<p>This morning&#8217;s mailbox had something far more valuable than a royalty check.\u00a0 A long time friend, with whom<\/p>\n<p>I have not spoken for months, sent me a book of poetry.\u00a0 THE SIMPLE TRUTH by poet Philip Levine.\u00a0 No note.<\/p>\n<p>One was not needed.\u00a0 I know what happened.\u00a0 I know my friend went to this poetry reading and book signing<\/p>\n<p>with a small note in his pocket:\u00a0\u00a0 &#8220;To Mary Anne.&#8221;\u00a0 And he waited in line. And while he waited, he smiled<\/p>\n<p>because he was thinking about me.\u00a0 This makes my spirit soar. And the gift itself feeds my soul.\u00a0 Fills my<\/p>\n<p>spiritual bank account.<\/p>\n<p>What fuels your friendships and do they feed you?
