The White House

Vice President JD Vance stopped a midterm rally to pray over an attendee that was experiencing a medical emergency. Vance was leading a rally in North Platte, NE in support of Republican Senator Pete Ricketts and Governor Jim Pillen who are up for reelection when a woman passed out on the stage behind him. Concerned onlookers waved for police to attend to her while others attempted to fan her with campaign signs.

Vance stopped speaking to observe the scene. “All right, looks like we got a medical issue, everybody. So, let’s just say a prayer and hope everybody’s OK,” he said, calling for his team’s doctor. Vance urged rallygoers to remain calm. “While they’re working on her, maybe those who are of the praying type will join me in a prayer,” he said, making the sign of the cross and leading several in the crowd in the Lord’s prayer. “Always in moments like this, try to pray as the Lord taught us to pray,” he said.

Vance later went to the woman to check on her and reported she was “fine” and that she was attending her first rally. The woman’s identity has not been revealed nor the specifics of her medical emergency, although it is common for fainting spells to occur at campaign rallies that can be crowded and where participants can often stand for long periods of time. The rally continued and Vance closed it with a promise to return soon. He referenced the incident on X, where he offered up prayers for the woman. “My prayers are with the woman who had a medical emergency at today’s rally in Nebraska,” he wrote. “I hope she has a speedy recovery. Thank you to the medical staff and first responders who reacted swiftly to make sure she was taken care of, and to the crowd for making sure she was able to be attended to.”

The Vice President has not shied away from sharing his faith, even writing a book about his faith journey from being raised in a faith background to atheism and now to the Catholic faith. He has even written a book about his return to faith. “Even though my faith journey is different from any other person’s, everybody, I think, who has a personal relationship with Jesus, they all have their own distinct flavor of how they got there. I thought maybe writing this down on paper and talking about all the ways in which I’m flawed and all the ways in which I came back to my faith, maybe that would be helpful in somebody else on their journey,” he told CBN. “So, I hope that it is and I hope if it’s helpful, great. But if it’s not helpful, blame me. Don’t blame the faith that inspired the book.”
