Teddi Mellencamp is opening up about one of the hardest seasons of her life\u2014and how it unexpectedly brought her closer to her father, legendary musician John Mellencamp.<\/p>\n

Speaking with Fox News Digital<\/em> at the Women\u2019s Cancer Research Fund, the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star shared how her stage 4 cancer diagnosis changed not only her perspective, but also her relationship with her dad.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was there with me at the hospital every day. So, I mean, he\u2019s seen the good, the bad and the ugly,\u201d Teddi said. \u201cBut I talk to him\u2014I mean, he calls every day to check in. This is a hard journey, and especially when you\u2019re in treatment.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her honesty paints a raw picture of what many families walk through during serious illness. While Teddi initially believed surgery would be the most difficult part, she admitted the ongoing treatments have taken an even greater toll.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought the surgery was going to be the hardest part, but it\u2019s the treatment that\u2019s really been weighing on me,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Through it all, she\u2019s found a deeper level of connection with her father\u2014one built on vulnerability and honesty.<\/p>\n

\u201cOh, of course. I\u2019ve found ways to be vulnerable with him that I never\u2014I never thought I needed,\u201d she shared. \u201cHaving cancer changes you. And I never really believed that and then now, it\u2019s just… what\u2019s important to me has completely shifted.\u201d<\/p>\n

That shift in perspective is something many believers can relate to. Trials often have a way of stripping away what doesn\u2019t matter and drawing our focus back to what truly does\u2014faith, family, and the people God places in our lives.<\/p>\n

Teddi first revealed her melanoma diagnosis in March 2022. By April 2025, the cancer had progressed to stage 4 and spread to her brain and lungs. Doctors performed surgery to remove tumors from her brain, but even then, more were discovered during the procedure.<\/p>\n

Looking back, Teddi marked a sobering milestone earlier this year. On Instagram, she reflected on the moment everything changed.<\/p>\n

\u201cA year ago today I went into the ER thinking I had migraines and within 24 hours was having surgery on the plum-sized stage 4 tumors on my brain,\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n

Despite the fear and uncertainty, she also expressed deep gratitude.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have a lot of anxiety surrounding today but also a lot of gratitude,\u201d she shared. \u201cGratitude for the doctors and nurses who took care of me, gratitude for my family and friends for supporting me, and gratitude for all the love that you have poured into me.\u201d<\/p>\n

She also offered a message that could help others: don\u2019t ignore warning signs.<\/p>\n

\u201cFor over a year I thought I had migraines, and it was brain cancer,\u201d Teddi explained. \u201cYou just have to trust your instincts and go to the doctor\u2026 if you feel something that doesn\u2019t feel right, take action.\u201d<\/p>\n

Her journey hasn\u2019t been easy. Along the way, she has faced difficult side effects, including trouble speaking clearly. But even in the struggle, there are glimpses of hope\u2014recent scans have shown her tumors decreasing in size.<\/p>\n
