John Mellencamp is opening up about his daughter Teddi Mellencamp\u2019s difficult cancer journey and the toll it has taken on their family. The 74-year-old musician recently spoke about the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills<\/em> star during appearances on both The Joe Rogan Experience<\/em> and NBC\u2019s Today Show<\/em>, sharing that his daughter is still facing serious health challenges as she undergoes treatment for stage 4 melanoma.<\/p>\n

On Joe Rogan\u2019s podcast, Mellencamp didn\u2019t hold back about the reality of the battle. \u201cIt\u2019s not f—ing fun,\u201d he said, adding, \u201cShe\u2019s got cancer in the brain, and she\u2019s suffering right now.\u201d<\/p>\n

Teddi, 44, was first diagnosed in 2022 with stage 2 melanoma \u2014 a deadly form of skin cancer. Over time, it spread to her brain and lungs, leading to multiple surgeries and rounds of immunotherapy. She has been transparent with fans about each step of her journey through social media and her podcast, Two T\u2019s in a Pod<\/em>.<\/p>\n

In October 2025, she shared what felt like a breakthrough moment, telling listeners, \u201cAt this point there is no detectable cancer.\u201d She added, \u201cWhen they told me, I was in such shock. I was like, numb.\u201d Even with that hopeful update, she reminded her audience that the fight wasn\u2019t over, explaining, \u201cI still am in immunotherapy, so I\u2019m still fighting because you have to be.\u201d<\/p>\n

Doctors also cautioned her that remission would take time. \u201cThe way the [doctors] said it works, it\u2019s like one year, then two years, then at three years you\u2019re allowed to be considered in remission,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Mellencamp echoed that on the Today Show, saying, \u201cYou can\u2019t say you\u2019re cancer-free with the type of cancer she\u2019s got for three years.\u201d He noted that Teddi experiences highs and lows as she continues treatment. \u201cShe has her good days and bad days,\u201d he explained, adding that after each immunotherapy session \u201cshe feels like hell for about four days\u201d before \u201cfeeling normal again.\u201d<\/p>\n

As a father, Mellencamp admitted he has tried to convince her to move closer to home during this season. \u201cI said, \u2018Move back to Indiana, bring the kids and just come back and live in Indiana,\u2019 but she won\u2019t do it,\u201d he joked.<\/p>\n

Behind the scenes, the family has even had candid talks about end-of-life planning \u2014 something Teddi recounted with both humor and honesty. During a 2025 podcast episode, she said her dad called repeatedly to insist she finalize her burial plans, telling her, \u201cI just want to make sure you\u2019re going to be in our group family mausoleum.\u201d She laughed as she recalled eventually giving in, saying, \u201cI think I agreed to be in the mausoleum.\u201d<\/p>\n

Today, Teddi continues immunotherapy and has been upfront about her odds, saying doctors once gave her a \u201c50\/50\u201d chance of survival. Despite the setbacks, her father is hopeful \u2014 and proud of how his daughter has fought.
