This week’s recommended reading: The Mind of the Soul: Responsible Choice, by Gary Zukav and Linda Francis.
This is a wonderful book by a wonderful couple — who, I want to say as a disclaimer here at the outset, happen to be friends of mine.
Published four years ago, it is part of a series of books that can lead one to a new level of spiritual awareness. The series includes The Seat of the Soul, Soul Stories, Thoughts from The Seat of the Soul, The Heart of the Soul, as well as the title discussed here.
As the book’s jacket itself says, this is a text to be used, not merely read. It is about…

…responsible choice, and includes illustrations and exercises that place one at the precipice of that opportunity as a continuing experience.
Exploring “choice” as a profound life encounter that actually creates who you are, The Mind of the Soul touches on every aspect of this adventure, moving the reader from Unconscious Choice to Conscious Choice to Responsible Choice. Key to all this is the tender relationship between Choice and Power. What Gary and Linda have to say about this will illuminate the thinking of many, and, I believe, can change a life virtually overnight.
The book is written in an easy-going, accessible style, which makes it a delightful read even though the subject is in no way unimportant. Examples: “The goal of five-sensory humans is survival. The goal of multisensory humans is spiritual growth.” “Multisensory humans strive to create authentic power–to align their personalities with their souls.” Then comes a startling direct statement: “They do not need the cooperation of others to accomplish that.”
I like this insight: “A temptation is a dress rehearsal for a negative karmic event.” It shows you, say Gary and Francis, “exactly what you refuse to acknowledge in yourself.” Whew. Why not say it like it is, while you’re at it….?
Well, the whole book is like that. Simple. Direct. Clear. Concise. Right on the money, and well worth the money to get it.
If you’re looking at choices in your life right now, or at a specific choice in particular that is plaguing you, waiting for an answer, brother, is this book for you. Yet even if you’re not, even if at this particular juncture you’re running pretty smoothly, all recent choices made, all conditions created, all systems on go, you’ll find The Mind of the Soul a marvelous companion as your journey continues. Because one thing is certain about this path we are all on: a new choice, and an important one, will present itself to you tomorrow. Count on it.
= = = = = = = = = = =
= = = = = = = = = = =
If you have enjoyed the reading here, you may wish to know about…
The Conversations with God
EUROPEAN RIVER CRUISE
OCTOBER 13-20, 2007
This is going to be a very special time, a wonderful
opportunity for us to spend quality moments together, in close
personal contact.
