The White House released a list<br \/>\nof the charities chosen by the President to receive funds from the $1.4 million award money. See below for the full list.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe biggest awardees were Fisher House, to provide housing for families of wounded military undergoing treatment at VA centers, and the<br \/>\nClinton-Bush Haiti fund. But the vast majority of the awardees are focused on education, with an emphasis on disadvantaged and minority<br \/>\nstudents.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0143038257?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=cityofbrass-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0143038257\"><br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.threecupsoftea.com\/wp-includes\/images\/3CTCoverSmall.jpg\" height=\"155\" border=\"0\" width=\"100\" \/><\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nI am particularly gratified to see the Central Asia Institute among the awardees. Founder Greg Mortenson is an incredible hero for<br \/>\nhaving helped found dozens of girls&#039; schools in Pakistan and Afghanistan. He wrote about his experience in his memoir, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/0143038257?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=cityofbrass-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=390957&amp;creativeASIN=0143038257\"><br \/>\nThree Cups of Tea<\/a>.<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=cityofbrass-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0143038257\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.assoc-amazon.com\/e\/ir?t=cityofbrass-20&amp;l=as2&amp;o=1&amp;a=0143038257\" height=\"1\" width=\"1\" alt=\"\" border=\"0\" \/>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOverall, the Nobel Peace Prize money is being used by the President as an investment in the future, for our nation and the world. Which<br \/>\nis as it should be.\n<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>\n$250,000 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fisherhouse.org\/\">Fisher House<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nFisher House is a national non-profit organization that provides housing for families of patients receiving medical care at major<br \/>\nmilitary and VA medical centers.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n$200,000 to the <a href=\"http:\/\/clintonbushhaitifund.org\/\">Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nIn the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, President Obama asked former Presidents George W. Bush and Bill Clinton to create<br \/>\nthe Clinton-Bush Haiti Fund to raise funds for long-term relief efforts in Haiti.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n$125,000 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegesummit.org\/\">College Summit<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nCollege Summit is a national non-profit organization that partners with elementary and middle schools and school districts to<br \/>\nstrengthen college-going culture and increase college enrollment rates, so that all students graduate from high school career and<br \/>\ncollege-ready.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n$125,000 to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.possefoundation.org\/\">Posse Foundation<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Posse Foundation is a national non-profit organization that identifies public high school students with extraordinary academic<br \/>\nand leadership potential who may be overlooked by traditional college selection processes. Posse&#039;s college and university<br \/>\npartners award Posse Scholars four-year, full tuition leadership scholarships. The scholars graduate at a rate of 90 percent.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n$125,000 to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.uncf.org\/\">United Negro College Fund<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe United Negro College Fund plays a critical role in enabling more than 60,000 students each year to attend college through<br \/>\nscholarship and internship programs.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n$125,000 to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hsf.net\/\">Hispanic Scholarship Fund<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) is the nation&#039;s leading Hispanic scholarship organization, providing the Hispanic community<br \/>\nmore college scholarships and educational outreach support than any other organization in the country. In its 34 year history, the<br \/>\nHispanic Scholarship Fund has awarded close to $280M in scholarships to more than 90,000 students in need.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n$125,000 to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alefwv.com\/\">Appalachian Leadership and Education Foundation<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nA non-profit organization funded by foundations and companies, ALEF supports and enables young men and women from Appalachia to<br \/>\npursue higher education though scholarship and leadership curriculum.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n$125,000 to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.collegefund.org\/\">American Indian College Fund<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe American Indian College Fund transforms Indian higher education by funding and creating awareness of the unique, community-based<br \/>\naccredited Tribal Colleges and Universities, offering students access to knowledge, skills, and cultural values which enhance their<br \/>\ncommunities and the country as a whole. The Fund disburses approximately 6,000 scholarships annually for American Indian students<br \/>\nseeking to better their lives through higher education. The Fund also provides support for tribal college needs, ranging from capital<br \/>\nsupport to cultural preservation curricula.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n$100,000 to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.africare.org\/\">AfriCare<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nAfriCare was founded in 1970 and has more projects in Africa than any other U.S. based charity, reaching communities in 25 countries,<br \/>\nprimarily in Sub-Saharan Africa. Its programs address needs in three principal areas: health and HIV\/AIDS; food security and<br \/>\nagriculture; and water resource development.\n<\/p>\n<p>\n$100,000 to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ikat.org\/\">Central Asia Institute<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe Central Asia Institute promotes and supports community-based education and literacy, especially for girls, in remote regions of<br \/>\nPakistan and Afghanistan.
