The sun has always intrigued astronomers. Now, a new development has scientists puzzled and could be a sign of the End Times. A large part of the sun broke off its surface, creating a tornado-like swirl around its North Pole. Scientists are trying to analyze how this happened, and a video of the event has shocked the space community.<\/p>\n

NASA\u2019s James Webb telescope captured the phenomenon, and Dr. Tamitha Skov, a space weather forecaster, shared the video on Twitter. The sun emits solar flares, or prominence, that can affect communications with Earth, which is why scientists are deeply concerned about this latest development.<\/p>\n

Dr. Skov tweeted, \u201cTalk about Polar Vortex! Material from a northern prominence just broke away from the main filament & is now circulating in a massive polar vortex around the north pole of our star. Implications for understanding the sun\u2019s atmospheric dynamics above 55 degrees here cannot be overstated!\u201d<\/p>\n

NASA says this prominence is a significant bright feature extending from the sun\u2019s surface. There have been several similar instances in the past, but this one has stumped the scientific community. In a follow-up tweet, Dr. Skov said, \u201cMore observations of the #SolarPolarVortex reveal it took roughly 8 hours for material to circumnavigate the pole at approximately 60-degree latitude. This means an upper bound in the estimation of horizontal wind speed in this event is 96 kilometers per second or 60 miles a second!\u201d<\/p>\n

Solar physicist Scott McIntosh of the U.S. National Centre for Atmospheric Research, who has been observing the sun for decades, told\u00a0Space.com<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that he had never seen a \u201cvortex\u201d like the one that occurred when a piece of the prominence broke away and was whipped into the solar atmosphere.<\/p>\n
