Josh Duggar\u2019s sister and brother-in-law recently reacted to Josh\u2019s prison sentence for child pornography, calling it God\u2019s vengeance.<\/p>\n

Jill\u00a0and\u00a0Derick Dillard\u00a0posted, \u201cThe Bible clearly states that God effects justice and vengeance through the governing authorities. Though some believe Josh should have received a greater sentence and still fewer believe he should have received a lighter sentence, God has carried out his vengeance today for his unspeakable criminal activity.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jill and Derick say 12 years, seven months behind bars, and 20-years probation after that is the only way Josh can rehabilitate himself, \u201cto the point he can safely live in society again.\u201d<\/p>\n

They went on, \u201cHopefully, Josh can actually begin to get treatment and begin to work toward a lifestyle where he is less likely to re-offend. If for nothing else, the notoriety of this case has hopefully contributed to the deterrence of potential offenders and will help protect children by decreasing the demand for child pornography.\u201d Josh\u2019s lawyer,\u00a0Travis Story, tells TMZ they will fight the conviction on appeal.<\/p>\n

The \u201c19 Kids and Counting\u201d star was\u00a0found guilty\u00a0on one count each of receiving and possessing child pornography. According to prosecutors, some of those images were minors under 12. Josh, 34,\u00a0was found guilty\u00a0of the crimes in December 2021 following a six-day trial. The jury deliberated for seven hours. The former TV star\u00a0was accused of downloading child porn files\u00a0onto a computer at his now-shuttered used car dealership over three days in May 2019.<\/p>\n

In May 2021,\u00a0a federal agent testified\u00a0that at least 65 images of child pornography were on Josh\u2019s computer, including a two-minute video that showed a man sexually abusing two girls aged between\u00a05 and 10 years old.<\/p>\n

The defense argued that someone else downloaded the porn onto the embattled TV star\u2019s work computer, and Josh\u00a0pleaded not guilty. However, the Department of Justice said a family friend testified during the trial that Josh had discussed downloading software to up the privacy on his computer. He ultimately installed a password-protected partition on his hard drive that he used to download porn.<\/p>\n

Several of Josh\u2019s other siblings spoke out in support of his conviction. Jinger Duggar\u00a0praised the jury\u00a0for their decision, writing in part in a lengthy statement on Instagram, \u201cWe are saddened for the victims of horrific child abuse. We are also saddened for Josh\u2019s family, his wife, and precious children.\u201d<\/p>\n

Joy-Anna and her husband, Austin Forsyth, agreed\u00a0with the guilty verdict. \u201cWe were able to sit through the trial to hear the evidence for ourselves,\u201d they noted in a joint statement on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe agree with the judicial system\u2019s verdict, and we are thankful for the men and women who work tirelessly to protect children and\u00a0help prevent child sexual abuse material.\u201d<\/p>\n

Aside from his most recent case, Josh has faced other sex-related crimes in the past. He was previously\u00a0accused of sexually abusing five underage girls,\u00a0including sisters Jill, Jessa,\u00a0Jinger, and\u00a0Joy, while he was a teenager.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
