President-elect Joe Biden used scripture and quotes from hymns during his victory speech on Saturday to show all American’s listening that he would work for them, no matter who they voted for.<\/p>\n
\u201cI pledge to be a president who seeks not to divide but unify. Who doesn\u2019t see red states and blue states, only sees the United States. And work with all my heart with the confidence of the whole people, to win the confidence of all of you. And for that is what America I believe is about. It\u2019s about people. And that\u2019s what our administration will be all about,\u201d Biden said in his speech in Wilmington, Delaware.<\/p>\n
President Donald Trump has yet to concede to his defeat in the 2020 election, and his campaign says that they will be going through the courts to force recounts and challenge ballot discrepancies. Biden, though, said his win was “clear”.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor all those of you who voted President Trump, I understand the disappointment tonight,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019ve lost a couple of times myself, but now let\u2019s give each other a chance. It\u2019s time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again, listen to each other again. And to make progress, we have to stop treating our opponents as our enemies. They are not our enemies. They are Americans. They are Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n
Biden then referred to the book of Ecclesiastes, saying \u201c\u2018To everything, there is a season: a time to build, a time to reap, and a time to sow and a time to heal.\u2019 This is the time to heal in America.\u201d<\/p>\n
He added, \u201cAmericans have called upon us to marshal the forces of decency, the forces of fairness, to marshal the forces of science and the forces of hope in the great battles of our time. The battle to control the virus. The battle to build prosperity. The battle to secure your family\u2019s healthcare. The battle to achieve racial justice and root out systemic racism in this country.\u201d<\/p>\n
Next, Biden brought up his late son Beau, who was a former attorney general of Deleware. He died in 2015 from brain cancer.<\/p>\n
\u201cFolks, in the last days of the campaign, I began thinking about a hymn that means a lot to me and my family, particularly my deceased son Beau,\u201d he said. \u201cIt captures the faith that sustains me and which I believe sustains America,\u201d he added, referring to Americans who have lost a loved one through COVID-19 this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd he will raise you up on eagles\u2019 wings, bear you on the breath of dawn, and make you to shine like the sun and hold you in the palm of his hand,\u201d Biden recited the lyrics of the hymn.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd now together on eagles\u2019 wings, we embark on the work that God and history have called us to do with full hearts and steady hands, with faith in America and in each other, with love of country, a thirst for justice,\u201d he continued. \u201cLet us be the nation that we know we can be. A nation united, a nation strengthened, a nation healed.\u201d<\/p>\n
