Three men who say they experienced the afterlife are opening up about terrifying encounters with hell, demons and death — experiences that transformed their understanding of God.

Bill Wiese, Jim Woodford and Steve Kang recently joined Fox News host Sean Hannity to share their very different stories. Despite their different circumstances, all three men said they returned convinced that what happens after death is real.

Wiese, author of “23 Minutes in Hell,” said his experience began unexpectedly when he got out of bed around 3 a.m. for a glass of water.

“Suddenly, I was pulled out of my body,” Wiese recalled. He said he found himself falling through a tunnel before landing on a stone floor inside what appeared to be a prison cell.

Wiese described encountering enormous, frightening creatures he believed were demons, including beings with scales, claws and reptile-like features.

“I had no idea how I got there, why,” he said.

Wiese considers what happened a vision and says his experience should not be the reason people believe in hell. Instead, he encourages people to look to scripture for that belief.

“It doesn’t matter if people believe my experience,” Wiese said. “I’m just a signpost to point them to the scriptures and by those be persuaded.”

Woodford’s experience came under very different circumstances. The pilot and author of “Heaven, an Unexpected Journey” had been taking medication for severe pain associated with Guillain-Barré syndrome. After taking more than the prescribed amount, he believed he was dying inside his truck.

Woodford said he called out to God for forgiveness before experiencing what he described as leaving his body and traveling through a tunnel of light.

But his account also included a frightening encounter. Woodford said he approached a chasm where a towering creature appeared and called him by name.

“Jim, Jim, this is your time with us,” Woodford recalled the creature saying. “We have been waiting.”

Terrified, Woodford cried out, “God help me.”

He said he later heard Jesus tell him to “go back” before eventually awakening in a hospital.

Steve Kang, now a Christian pastor, shared another harrowing story. A former Buddhist monk, Kang said he was 19 when he used marijuana that he believes was laced with other drugs and attempted suicide. During an eight-hour operation, he said he experienced what felt like an eternity in hell.

“Anything is better on earth,” Kang said. “Any suffering on earth is better than the pain I felt in hell.”

When Kang awoke, he said Christians were surrounding him and praying. He later converted to Christianity and eventually became a pastor.

Near-death experiences remain intensely debated, and the three men’s accounts cannot independently establish what happens after death. Still, for Wiese, Woodford and Kang, the experiences carried the same lasting message: They believe they were given another chance at life — and a responsibility to point others toward God.
