Is it vandalism\u2014or a bold act of evangelism?<\/p>\n

A viral video circulating on social media shows an unidentified man climbing atop a billboard platform overlooking the Los Angeles skyline and painting over a controversial message that read, “Jesus is Not God.” With a few strokes of paint, the word “Not” disappears, transforming the sign into a public declaration of Christian belief: “Jesus is God.”<\/p>\n

The undated clip<\/a> has sparked widespread debate online, not only over the legality of altering private property, but over the deeper theological issues at the heart of the billboard campaign itself. The original message was part of a nationwide effort by World’s Last Chance<\/a>, a group that claims its billboards are designed to “shatter the chains of long-held misconceptions” about Christianity.<\/p>\n

According to the group’s website, the billboard altered in the video is just one of several provocative messages. Others reportedly deny the Trinity, claim Jesus did not pre-exist in heaven, and even promote the idea of a flat earth<\/a>. World’s Last Chance describes its messaging as a “clarion call” to reveal what it calls the “radiant truth of Scripture,” but many Christian leaders say the campaign promotes teachings long rejected by historic Christianity.<\/p>\n

Among them is Ray Comfort, founder and CEO of Living Waters, who issued<\/a> a strong warning in response to the campaign.<\/p>\n

“These signs have been erected by a strange sect that claims to believe the Scriptures yet openly denies the deity of Christ \u2014 a contradiction the Bible doesn’t permit,” Comfort said in a Jan. 21 video response<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Comfort pointed to multiple biblical passages affirming that Jesus is fully God, not merely a created being. “Jesus himself said, ‘I came down from heaven,’ and ‘Before Abraham was, I am,'” he said, noting that such statements were understood by Jesus’ original audience as direct claims to deity. “He is not merely a moral teacher, but the Creator himself.”<\/p>\n

Comfort also warned that denying the Son strikes at the heart of the Christian faith. “Scripture warns us that whoever denies the Son does not have the Father. That’s why this matters,” he said.<\/p>\n

The teaching challenged by the billboard is commonly associated with Arianism, an early Christian heresy that held that Jesus was created rather than eternal. That belief was formally rejected at the Council of Nicaea in the fourth century, when church leaders affirmed the full deity of Jesus Christ in what became the Nicene Creed.<\/p>\n
