Also known as Luke the Evangelist, Luke is widely regarded as the author of both the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts, according to the Christian website OverviewBible. Luke wrote more of\u00a0the New Testament\u00a0than anyone else \u2014 even more than the apostle Paul, that site notes.<\/p>\n<p>Jesus, Fr. Patrick Mary Briscoe, O.P., told Fox News Digital, didn\u2019t need to ask the disciples what was bothering them \u2014 after all, the Bible tells us that God \u201cknows the secrets of our hearts\u201d in Psalm 44. Briscoe is a Washington, D.C.-based\u00a0Dominican friar\u00a0and Catholic priest.\u00a0\u201cSo why does He do it, then? Why ask the disciples what troubles them?\u201d said Briscoe. He did this, he said, because \u201cJesus needs the disciples to confront their fear, to face it, to claim it, to own it.\u201d Briscoe said, \u201cThe biggest temptation in the spiritual life is to believe that we can make progress on our own.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cHow many times have we tried to advance in prayer or study scripture more fruitfully or accomplish\u00a0good deeds\u00a0by our strength? How many times have we depended on ourselves rather than God?\u201d Rather than depending on ourselves, \u201cevery challenge, every trial of life, is about surrendering to God and trusting in Him,\u201d he said. Briscoe then related that he was recently \u201caccosted on the streets of Denver.\u201d As a Dominican friar, Briscoe wears a white religious habit \u2014 and \u201ca man clearly thought I was something I am not,\u201d he said.\u00a0He continued, \u201cI heard him call out to me, and before I realized what was happening, he crossed the street, grabbed the top part of my garment and ripped it off. He began to make off with it, but I reached out and grabbed it and pulled it back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat was I thinking?\u201d he added.\u00a0It quickly became clear that \u201cthis poor man was not in his right mind\u201d \u2014 and Briscoe said he \u201cbegged him to let go.\u201d He said, \u201cI was polite but firm.\u201d He said, \u201cThen, I had an inspiration. Still holding my clothes, I dropped to my knees and prayed, \u2018Jesus, help my brother know that I love him.\u2019\u201d The man, \u201cjust like that,\u201d dropped Briscoe\u2019s habit and walked away, he said. \u201cPeople aren\u2019t impressed when Christians are troubled or distressed. But when peace, the peace of the Risen Christ, reigns in our hearts, they know. They see it,\u201d he said.\u00a0The\u00a0peace of Christ, said Briscoe, &#8220;is irresistible.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He also said, &#8220;The peace of Christ is the one thing every heart longs for, and it\u2019s the one thing this world cannot give.&#8221; When Jesus met with His disciples in Jerusalem after the resurrection, &#8220;He told them, \u2018Peace be with you,\u2019&#8221; said Briscoe.\u00a0That phrase is repeated each Sunday at Mass.\u00a0&#8220;With our eyes fixed on Christ, we can withstand any trial,&#8221; said Briscoe.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As our lips profess His holy and saving name, we will rely only on Him.
