It’s catchy, but about as irritating as someone chewing on a popsicle stick, plus misogynistic and materialistic without Madonna’s ironic campiness–oh and totally, deeply inane. It’s about how Fergie’s “humps” in “the front and the back” get men to buy her “icies” (diamonds)and designer clothes. I know. Not exactly spiritual blog material.

But the new version by Alanis Morrissette, in fact, is. In a deliciously genius parody/homage, the singer and eco-activist slows the song way, way down to Alanis speed so that it’s almost a ballad. And though the video has her all hip-hopped out, adorned with bling and a Fergie-esque ponytail and satin jacket, she seems to be reclaiming the lyrics while skewering them, creating empowerment and depth and even pathos where there was only sheen.

TMZ reported last week that Fergie saw the version and sent Alanis flowers. She thought it was hilarious. Check it below, yo.
