I like interleague play in Major League Baseball, but this is one night where the sport suffers for it:<\/p>\n

The MLB All-Star Game, to be aired on FOX at 8p ET.<\/p>\n

Gone are some matchups you would have waited all season, or a couple seasons, for and in its place is a game trying to matter.<\/p>\n

Growing up as a “Noo Yawkuh”, I always enjoyed the rare opportunity to see a Mets batter face a Yankees pitcher in the All Star Game.<\/p>\n

It was especially rare because the Mets have had about as many All Stars as they have had no-hitters.<\/p>\n

(OK, that was a cheap shot and not entirely true, though “you could look it up” as Yogi Berra would say.)<\/p>\n

Now, however, I find myself staying up just to make sure the AL wins the game so the Yankees get what should be theirs anyway: home field advantage in the World Series.<\/p>\n

It isn’t right the Yanks or Red Sox or the best team in either league might have to count on a clutch hit from a Seattle Mariner or Pittsburgh Pirate to open the World Series at home.<\/p>\n

If the game don’t matter, pardon my grammar, and everyone knows it don’t matter … then don’t fix it!<\/p>\n
