{"id":474,"date":"2011-07-10T09:57:26","date_gmt":"2011-07-10T13:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/changingchannels\/?p=474"},"modified":"2011-07-10T15:32:38","modified_gmt":"2011-07-10T19:32:38","slug":"the-700-club-still-has-it-after-all-these-years","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/changingchannels\/2011\/07\/the-700-club-still-has-it-after-all-these-years.html","title":{"rendered":"The 700 Club Still Has It &#8230; After All These Years"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>When I was a kid growing up I noticed a neighbor of mine used to watch <em>The 700 Club<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>It was a little odd in that I thought &#8220;church stuff&#8221; like that was just for Sunday mornings.<\/p>\n<p>I couldn&#8217;t see why somebody would want to watch Christian programming in the middle of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Not to say she was perfect, no one is, but as I reflect on it now her family-owned bakery often gave us free rolls and pastries.<\/p>\n<p>It was a big help to my parents, who for some reason decided to have FIVE boys and became lower-middle class because of it. (Well, they didn&#8217;t decide on boys, but you get the drift&#8230;).<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, her family was better than decent and very good neighbors that we treasured like discovering the custard in the middle of one their donuts.<\/p>\n<p>They didn&#8217;t change much and neither has <em>The 700 Club<\/em>, which is a good thing.<\/p>\n<p>From Pat Robertson, to his son Gordon the show instills in its viewers the value of Christian living.<\/p>\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"The 700 Club - Saving Laurie - Shot in a Drive By Shooting\" width=\"500\" height=\"375\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/oO0plZMXNWg?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<p>The program, which airs on different stations and times throughout the country, has news and other features like other shows but <em>The 700 Club<\/em> does things from a Christian perspective.<\/p>\n<p>That doesn&#8217;t mean segments are cleaned up, quite the contrary the program has pieces on people who overcome drug and alcohol addiction, demonic possession and the abject poverty that many live-in throughout the world.<\/p>\n<p>For those who believe in the power of prayer and Jesus, <em>The 700 Club<\/em> is worthwhile programming.
