He writes that <i>&#8220;the criteria for what makes for a Christian film can include<br \/>\neverything from the positive portrayal of Christian clergy and a<br \/>\nfair-minded accounting of some episode in Christian history to merely an<br \/>\nuplifting story about someone who prays and finds strength to do the<br \/>\nright thing. It may also include no explicitly Christian iconography or<br \/>\neven references but merely concern the plight of a broken soul who comes<br \/>\nup against the limits of his or her internal resources and is<br \/>\nconsequently &#8220;redeemed&#8221; by some &#8220;external&#8221; salvific force.&#8221;<\/i><\/p>\n<p>BTW, commenting <a href=\"http:\/\/bighollywood.breitbart.com\/jjmnolte\/2011\/02\/09\/top-25-greatest-christian-films-and-the-nominees-are\/?utm_source=twitterfeed&amp;utm_medium=twitter&amp;utm_campaign=Feed%3A+BigHollywood+%28Big+Hollywood%29&amp;utm_content=Twitter\">Big Hollywood&#8217;s John Nolte&#8217;s quest to name the 25 Greatest Christian Movies<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/strangeherring.com\/2011\/02\/09\/whats-a-christian-film\/\">Sacramone nominates<\/a> B<em><\/em>illy Bob Thornton&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt0117666\/\"><em>Sling Blade<\/em><\/a>. I haven&#8217;t actually seen the movie but the fact that he recommends it, suggests to me that it probably belongs.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, I have few titles to add to my previous list of nominees that includes <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jesus_of_Nazareth_%28miniseries%29\"><i>Jesus of Nazareth<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Schindler%27s_List\"><i>Schindler&#8217;s List<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0k_Vsmqf6X8\"><i>It&#8217;s a Wonderful Life<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=H1EOnVSSJYs\"><i>Joe Versus the Volcano<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tender_Mercies\"><i>Tender Mercies<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Planes,_Trains_and_Automobiles\"><i>Planes, Trains and Automobiles<\/i><\/a>, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Raiders_of_the_lost_ark\">Raiders of the Lost Ark<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indiana_Jones_and_the_Last_Crusade\">Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade<\/a>,<\/i> <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Bells_of_St._Mary%27s\"><i>The Bells of St. Mary&#8217;s<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=OnrmWLp1Ub8\"><i>Doubt<\/i><\/a>, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Signs_%28movie%29\">Signs<\/a> <\/i>and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Amazing_Grace_%282006_film%29\"><i>Amazing Grace<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<div>New to my list, drum roll please, are <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bruce_Almighty\"><i>Bruce Almighty<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mr._Smith_Goes_to_Washington\"><i>Mr. Smith Goes to Washington<\/i><\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gran_Torino\"><i>Gran Torino<\/i><\/a>, <i><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Wizard_of_Oz_%281939_film%29\">The Wizard of Oz<\/a><\/i> and <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Titanic_%281997_film%29\"><i>Titanic<\/i><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>What are Christians looking for at the movies? Good stories. Good Characters. Good values. It&#8217;s not a hard formula. <\/div>\n<p><b>TV News:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/television\/column-post\/two-and-half-men-resume-shooting-feb-28-24810\">Update: Charlie Sheen returns to <i>Two and a Half Men<\/i>.<\/a> <\/b>The show will end the season with 20 episodes, down from the 24 originally planned before his latest round of drug-related headlines.&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/television\/column-post\/james-van-der-beek-continues-noble-actors-playing-themselves-tradition-new-pi\"><b>TV&#8217;s crass-title mini-trend continues.<\/b><\/a> James Van Der Beek (<i>Dawson&#8217;s Creek<\/i>) is set to play himself in an ABC (supposed) comedy pilot called <i>Don&#8217;t Trust the Bitch in Apt. 23<\/i>. I&#8217;m guessing he&#8217;s not playing the title role. Anyway, too bad the pilot isn&#8217;t at CBS. They could pair with <i>$#*! <em>My Dad Says<\/em>.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/television\/column-post\/adriamme-palicki-signed-wonder-woman-24809\"><b>NBC casts a <i>Wonder Woman<\/i> for this generation.<\/b><\/a> She&#8217;s Adrianne Palicki of <i>Friday Night Lights<\/i>. This updated version of the iconic female superhero by David E. Kelley (<i>Boston Legal<\/i>), so something tells me it&#8217;s not going to be written with kids and family viewing in mind. BTW, the new <i>Wonder Woman<\/i> series (if it gets picked up) will be called simply <i>Wonder Woman<\/i>, not to be confused with the 1970&#8217;s <i>Wonder Woman <\/i>series starring Lynda Carter. The official title of the old one is <i>The New Adventures of Wonder Woman. <\/i>Got that?<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thewrap.com\/television\/column-post\/trivia-machine-wins-jeopardy-ibm-challenge-was-it-watson-24807\">Watson the Computer beats the human champions on <i>Jeopardy<\/i>.<\/a> <\/b>Possibly the most depressing story of the day.
