Where is the U.S. government and media?
Reza Aslan writing for the Daily Beast: Iraq’s 2,000-year-old Christian
community is on the brink of extinction, its members targeted by al Qaeda
attacks and fleeing abroad. But Hillary Clinton, the one person who could force
the Iraq government to act, is keeping her mouth shut.

 A full-scale genocide is under way in Iraq: a well-planned, well-financed,
deliberate plot to cleanse the country of its Christian citizens. And thus far,
neither the Iraqi government nor the United States is doing anything to stop
it. Read Full Story.

Comment: I’d add the mainstream media to the list of those doing little or nothing to help alter the situation. It may not fit the preferred mainstream media narrative, but Christians are under vicious assault from Muslim extremists in Iraq as the world looks away.

On the positive side, the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) has “in the strongest terms” condemned the “barbaric” anti-Christian violence in Iraq. That is truly a positive reminder that murderous Muslim fanatics do not represent Islam or Muslims as a community.

Now, if only our political leaders and media had the same moral clarity as ISNA. While the U.N. Security Council has condemned the attacks, unless I’ve somehow been missing something, top officials in the the U.S. government (including the President) have been largely unheard from on the issue while the mainstream media’s coverage has been conspicuously muted. Condemnation of the Israeli boarding of an aid ship near Gaza topped headlines and led TV newscasts. Ditto for coverage of that nutty anti-Muslim Christian minister who was threatening to burn Qurans in Florida. Isn’t the killing of 64 Christians and the wounding of about 100 others worthy of at least as much attention as those stories?

The deliberate slaughter of Christians in Iraq is a major humanitarian issue — one which the Obama Administration should not ignore and which the media should should shine a bright light on.
