Whether by design or a happy byproduct, part of the reason is that Giuliani has compensated for his liberalism on abortion and gay rights through attacks on Islamofascism.  They may seem unrelated but here\u2019s my logic<br \/>\nFor many Christians, the war on terror is not just a fight against terrorists. It\u2019s part of a much larger global struggle between Christianity and Islam for the souls of the world\u2019s population.  Privately, many evangelicals were appalled that President Bush declared Islam to be a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/news\/releases\/2001\/09\/20010917-11.html\">\u201creligion of peace.\u201d  <\/a> They preferred the construction of Franklin Graham, who said the Qur\u2019an<a href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/111\/story_11117_2.html\"> \u201cdoesn&#8217;t teach peace, it teaches violence.\u201d<\/a><br \/>\nWith his strong rhetoric on Islamofascism, Giuliani is signalling that he\u2019s on the right side of that divide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why is Giuliani still popular with rank and file evangelicals?
