{"id":33,"date":"2007-10-29T16:43:02","date_gmt":"2007-10-29T16:43:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/castingstones\/2007\/10\/rendering-to-caesar-but-not-to.html"},"modified":"2007-10-29T16:43:02","modified_gmt":"2007-10-29T16:43:02","slug":"rendering-to-caesar-but-not-to","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/castingstones\/2007\/10\/rendering-to-caesar-but-not-to.html","title":{"rendered":"Rendering to Caesar but not too much"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I have to take exception with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/10\/28\/magazine\/28Evangelicals-t.html?em&amp;ex=1193803200&amp;en=267bf647811d3d07&amp;ei=5087%0A\">Huckabee&#8217;s comment<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;I think they are going to have a hard time going out into the pews and saying tax policy is what Jesus is about, that he said, \u2018Come unto me all you who are overtaxed and I will give you rest.\u2019\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I&#8217;m sorry but I think a case could be made against raising taxes on the grounds of excessive spending, excessive taxation and the unfairness of targeting one group.  I can&#8217;t understand why anyone would want to reward this Congress with more money to throw around like drunken sailors. If the money actually made it to the poor instead of a huge government bureaucracy, I might be tempted into agreement but knowing that our government wastes so much of the money that they collect, I feel no compunction to vote for those who would take more.<br \/>\nIt would be poor stewardship of the money that we have been given by the Lord to vote for someone who wouldn&#8217;t work to end spending our money on a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heritage.org\/Research\/Budget\/wm889.cfm\">bridge to nowhere<\/a>,a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/stories\/2007\/10\/27\/politics\/washingtonpost\/main3419386.shtml\">hippie museum<\/a> and a center in <a href=\"http:\/\/greeneyeshade.townhall.com\/blog\/g\/97a089b6-cb3f-419e-815f-dd7a5cd80fe9\">Rangel&#8217;s name<\/a>, just to name a few of the more egregious examples.
