The best way to appreciate\u00a0her talent is to listen\u00a0to her new release <a title=\"The Sound of the Dove\" href=\"http:\/\/www.pamelajanegerrand.com\" target=\"_blank\">The\u00a0Sound of the Dove\u00a0<\/a>. Each piece is a sparkling gem, a wisp of feathers wafting downward to be gathered up and held to the heart.<\/p>\n<p>It opens with <em><strong>Prairie Sky<\/strong><\/em> which is a\u00a0sweet love\u00a0song.\u00a0 &#8220;I can feel the thunder rolling in. I can taste the raindrops before they begin,&#8221;\u00a0 sung in a sultry voice to the heartbeat drumbeat rhythm.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I hear the colors in my voice,&#8221; beckons the listener into this\u00a0<strong><em>Unadorned<\/em><\/strong> song in which Gerrand acknowledges to one who is dear to her &#8220;You are my shelter from the storm.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What could become an anthemic piece begs the questions &#8216;&#8221;How many pairs of shoes do you need?\u00a0 Are we awash in an ocean of greed?&#8221;\u00a0as a children&#8217;s chorus reminds\u00a0us that we have \u00a0<strong><em>Enough Already<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Let Go\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>is\u00a0an invitation to\u00a0release fear. &#8220;Let go, let go, let go the shore.\u00a0\u00a0Don&#8217;t hold on so tight.\u00a0 Give up the fight.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>The Buddha Smiles<\/strong><\/em>\u00a0 speaks to spiritual uncertainty. &#8220;Where do I begin to find the strength that I lack?&#8221;\u00a0 The Sanskrit mantra <em>Om mani padme hum\u00a0<\/em>which\u00a0 commonly\u00a0translates to &#8216;the jewel in the lotus,&#8217; is\u00a0chanted in the background. Violin accompaniment has an &#8216;Eleanor Rigby&#8217;- Beatle-esque feel to it.<\/p>\n<p>The title song called<strong><em> The Sound of the Dove<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0has one imagining raindrops from Maxfield Parrish clouds, bird wings coasting as Gerrand proclaims that &#8220;The sound of the dove can break you open. The sound of the dove can make you cry.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Shine\u00a0<\/strong><\/em>which\u00a0wonders &#8220;Can you feel the fire down deep in your soul?\u00a0 Can you feel it burning so bright? Sing your song on high. Shine on, sister, shine,&#8221; invites silk scarf dancing in oak groves.<\/p>\n<p>Her own rendering of<em><strong> Scarborough Fair<\/strong> <\/em>departs from the Simon and Garfunkel version that sounds as if it were sung in the era about which it was written.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Emerging<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em>encourages peeking out from our contained\u00a0places into the space between the notes. &#8220;We are, we are, we are, I am, we are emerging. We are merging with the light.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>I&#8217;ll Meet You There<\/strong><\/em> references the field that the poet Rumi spoke of &#8220;Love is simple. Love is kind. Out beyond the struggle beyond my wrong and your right, there is a field filled with light.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The closing track<em><strong> Pearly Gates of Song<\/strong><\/em> carries with it Native American drum resonance and chanting. &#8220;We are angels in disguise. Starlight falling from your eyes.We have journeyed for so long.&#8221;\u00a0Eyes closed, listening to the echoes of ancestors as they both chastise and challenge to &#8220;welcome the winds of change.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Gerrand&#8217;s talents go beyond her song-bird serenades. All of the songs, with the exception of Scarborough Fair came from her vivid imagination and wild word wrangling.
