Walked into the post office last week to buy stamps to mail out Birthday cards for my niece and nephew. Usually I purchase ‘love’ stamps since I believe that the expression of love need not be limited to special occasions. I even put them on my bills, since I know checks written for services rendered can be imbued with that powerful energy as well. This time, my eyes were drawn to rainbow colorful stamps with the jumping-up-and-down-for-attention word CELEBRATE! spelled out on them. I knew I had to change my plan and get those instead, to adorn the envelopes about to wing their way southward.<\/p>\n
That simple gesture conjured up a memory from a few years back. I was working in a counseling center and one of my clients had lived in a group home setting for many years and had a chronic mental health diganosis. I referred to her as the ‘cruise director’ because she was always coming up with activities for the other residents who shared the space with her, to participate in. They ranged from trips to the mall or a movie to time hanging out at a local coffee shop, or game night. When I commented on her talent for enlivening things for her peers, she smiled and said “Oh, I just like throwing little parties for myelf and invite other people to come along.” What a brilliant way of seeing things. This woman could easily have felt sorry for herself, but instead, chose to shift her perception. A Course In Miracles describes a miracle in just that way. When you change how you view something, everything changes.<\/p>\n
