That may sound strange coming from a wordsmith. Perhaps a better way to say it is that words blended with music are that much richer, fuller and juicier in their expression. It’s hard to imagine a world without it. It accompanies me throughout my day, as I write, (although at the moment, in the wee hours of the morning, before the sun has awoken, out of courtesy for my sleeping son, the only music that reaches my ears is coming from a cooing mourning dove outside my window), in the car as I sing along, in my office at work, at the gym as I sweat my prayers and in my head as a song pops in, cajoling me to add my voice.

A few days ago, Something Beautiful came through by way of Facebook. Alexi Murdoch is a Scottish singer-songwriter who inititally entered into my awareness on WXPN, an eclectic NPR station located at the University of Pennsylvania. www.xpn.org The song Orange Sky was the first piece of his that had me wanting more “I dreamed last night, I stood beneath an orange sky, with my brother standing by.” had me mesmerized, but this one that you will hear shortly, truly dove deep and could very well become an interfaith classic. Enjoy this aural affirmation.

May the Grace of God be with you always, in your heart May you know the truth inside you from the start May you find the strength to know that you are a part of something beautiful…
X3

And I thought that I saw, a light Shine, I thought that I saw a light shine Yes, I thought, that I saw, a light Shine; I think I see a light shine, now….

May the Grace of God be with you always, in your heart May you know the truth inside you from the start May you find the strength to know that you are a Part of something beautiful…
May the Grace of God be with you always, in your heart May you know the truth inside you from the start May you find the strength to know that you are a Part of something beautiful…

And I thought that I saw, a light Shine, I thought that I saw a light shine Yes, I thought, that I saw, a light Shine; I thought that I saw a light shine Yes, I thought, that I saw, a light Shine; I thought that I saw a light shine Yes, I thought, that I saw, a light Shine; I thought that I saw a light shine Yes, I thought, that I saw, a light Shine; I think I see a light shine….now

From the corner of my eye I thought I saw a light shine From the corner of my eye I thought I saw a light shine X10

And I thought that I saw, a light shine, I thought that I saw, a light shine Yes, I thought, that I saw, a light Shine; I thought I saw a light shine now (From the corner of my eye I thought I saw a light shine From the corner of my eye I thought I saw a light shine) And I thought, than I saw, a light shine, I thought that I saw, a light shine Yes, I thought, that I saw, a light Shine; I think i see a light shine now

May the Grace of God be with you always, in your heart May you know the truth inside you from the start May you find the strength to know that you are a Part of something beautiful.

The idea of Grace has long fascinated me. There are many defintions, but a fitting one for our purposes here:

a. Divine love and protection bestowed freely on people.

b. The state of being protected or sanctified by the favor of God.

c. An excellence or power granted by God.

I had long heard that Grace is unearned, like love. It is offered just because it can be, because it is within the pervue of the Source to do so. If that is the case, how could we ever turn it down? What is it that has us hold up our hands and say “No, no, I couldn’t possibly.”, when our most fervent prayers are calling out for it? Such paradoxical creatures are we humans.

So, in this day and all those that follow, I encourage all of us to feel the flowing love of Divine Grace wash over us and know that this light is ALWAYS shining brilliantly within us.

http://youtu.be/qpubpGlRe0o Something Beautiful by Alexi Murdoch

www.aleximurdoch.com

Music has the capacity to transcend borders, boundaries, religion and reason, touching places that words alone are unable to reach.
