{"id":151,"date":"2011-02-24T01:00:00","date_gmt":"2011-02-24T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/blissblog\/2011\/02\/reel-wisdom.html"},"modified":"2011-02-24T01:00:00","modified_gmt":"2011-02-24T01:00:00","slug":"reel-wisdom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/blissblog\/2011\/02\/reel-wisdom.html","title":{"rendered":"Reel Wisdom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><font>I love movies, From the time I was a child, walking into&nbsp;The Fox Theater in Willingboro, NJ (and&nbsp;as silly as it might seem, before I entered the building, at around the age of 3, I&nbsp;really believed we were going to be inside the belly of a giant fox:) to watch a Disney movie, I was hooked.&nbsp; Just about any genre but&nbsp;those containing blood and guts and gore, appeals to me. For that period of time, sitting in the darkened room, I find myself transported to other realms and have the opporunity to live many lives all at once. By far and away, &#8216;message&#8217; movies appeal to me most of all. So many films have obvious and subtle spiritual content; the messages of which resonate for a long time afterward. The original 3 Star Wars movies contain such deep wisdom.&nbsp; Yoda is my favorite green sage (Kermit being the other one:) and I often quote his dialog with Luke Skywalker regarding the word &#8216;try&#8217;.&nbsp; &#8220;Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.&#8221;&nbsp; It&#8217;s like asking someone to try and take a pen from your hand. They either take it or they don&#8217;t take it. Simple as that.<\/font><\/p>\n<p><font>I enjoyed Avatar for similar reasons, although I found myself with motion sickness during some of the more active scenes and had to close my eyes and stabilize. I was able to see similarities in concept with some of my most beloved books, such as Stranger in A Strange Land (with the phrase &#8220;I see you.&#8221;, being similar to the &#8220;Thou Art God&#8221; greeting) , The Kin of Ata Are Waiting For You and 2150 A.D.
