When I went to the University of Durham there was a young man who had been playing in jazz clubs in Newcastle, the next train stop north and had been an English teacher. His name was Gordon Summner, and he had a magic voice and played a mean bass as well. He was discovered by a drummer looking for someone to help him start a punk rock group, and the rest was history. That bass player became Sting, one of the finest rock artists of the fifth and final great wave of the rock era. Here is a small sampling of some of his solo work, with a glimpse of his and Trudy’s Tudor mansion which houses his recording studio. Enjoy, BW3<\/p>\n
