THE BONDING<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/h1>\n

 <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/span><\/p>\n

A cold and listless season,<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And full of cheerless cheer,<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

When hopes are raised and dashed again<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And joy dissolves in tears.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

The search for endless family<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

The search for one true Friend<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Leaves questers tired, disconsolate<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

With questions without end.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

Best find some potent pleasure quick<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Some superficial thrill<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Than search for everlasting love<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

When none can fill that bill.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

So hide yourselves in shopping<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And eating ’til you burst,<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Use endless entertainment<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

As shelter from the worst.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

And hope at least for truce on earth,<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Though warlords rattle swords<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

As if to kill could solve our ills<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

We seize our ‘just’ rewards.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

Mistake some rest for lasting peace<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And calm for ‘all is well’<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And absence of activity<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

As year end’s victory bell.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

But what if Advent is no quest<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Despite the wise men’s star<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

What if Advent isn’t reached<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

By driving from afar?<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

What if Good News comes to us<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

From well beyond our reach?<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

What if love and peace on earth<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Are more than things we preach?<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

What if a restless peace<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Is what He did intend<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Until we open up our lives<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And let the stranger in?<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

What if a peaceless rest<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Is not the Christmas hope<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

What if nothing we could do<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Helps us truly cope?<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

What if there is a bonding<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

With one who rules above<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Who came to us in beggar’s rags<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And brought the gift of love?<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

The God shaped hole in every heart<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Is healed by just one source<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

When Jesus comes to claim his own<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Who are without recourse.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

So give up endless seeking<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Surrender is required<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

The one who is the Lord of all<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Cannot be bought or hired,<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

He’s not conjured into life<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

By pomp and circumstance<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

By Yuletide carols boldly sung<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

By fun or drunken trance.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

He comes unbidden, unawares<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Fills crevices of souls<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

He comes on his own timely terms<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And makes the sinner whole.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

‘We shall be restless’ said the saint<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

‘Until we rest in thee’<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And find that we have been reborn,<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

Our own nativity.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

 <\/font><\/p>\n

How silently, how silently<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

The precious truth is given<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

And God imparts to human hearts<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n

The blessings of his heaven.<\/font><\/font><\/font><\/p>\n
