{"id":901,"date":"2011-10-15T10:40:02","date_gmt":"2011-10-15T14:40:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/?p=901"},"modified":"2011-10-15T10:40:02","modified_gmt":"2011-10-15T14:40:02","slug":"crunchy-snack-recipe-with-a-surprise-ingredient","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/beyondgorgeous\/2011\/10\/crunchy-snack-recipe-with-a-surprise-ingredient.html","title":{"rendered":"Crunchy Snack Recipe &#8212; With a Surprise Ingredient!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Sometimes you just need something munchy.\u00a0 Here is a recipe that is good for you, easy to fix, and inexpensive.\u00a0 How can you beat that?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/files\/2011\/10\/Crunchy-Garbanzo-Snack.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-902\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/261\/2011\/10\/Crunchy-Garbanzo-Snack-300x173.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" \/><\/a>Our post yesterday featured the often-overlooked, low glycemic wonder food &#8212; garbanzo beans, or chickpeas.\u00a0 Roasted, they make a terrific crunchy snack.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s how to make them:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\">\u00a0Crunchy Garbanzo Snacks<\/p>\n<p>Drain and rinse a can of garbanzo beans.\u00a0 Pat dry with paper towels. \u00a0Coat lightly with a teaspoon or so of virgin coconut oil (or oil of your choice &#8212; but coconut oil is good for you).<\/p>\n<p>Toss with a spice of your choice.\u00a0 You can use sea salt, chili powder, and cumin for a Mexican flavor, or try a cajun or mediterranean spice mix.\u00a0 You may just want to use a teaspoon or so of sea salt.<\/p>\n<p>For a sweet snack, toss with 2 T. maple syrup, honey, or agave nectar. You can add cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger for a flavor variety.<\/p>\n<p>Bake in a 400 degree F. oven for 30 minutes or so, stirring a couple of times.\u00a0 They should be crunchy all the way through &#8212; not soft in the middle\u00a0 Let them cool and then enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>Do remember that, although these guys are low glycemic and provide many nutrients, they contain about 270 calories per cup, so they are not a free food.
