{"id":458,"date":"2011-07-15T14:06:20","date_gmt":"2011-07-15T18:06:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/?p=458"},"modified":"2011-07-15T09:11:01","modified_gmt":"2011-07-15T13:11:01","slug":"better-than-riches-of-beauty","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/beyondgorgeous\/2011\/07\/better-than-riches-of-beauty.html","title":{"rendered":"Better than Riches of Beauty"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.<\/em>\u00a0 Ps. 37:16<\/p>\n<p>Well, we\u2019re not really talking about money in our blog &#8212; but this verse applies to us, anyway.\u00a0 Aren\u2019t\u00a0 we\u00a0 always tempted to compare ourselves to the richly beautiful and skinny people on television?\u00a0 We see their tiny arms, slender legs and flat stomachs and we feel like blobs of goo in comparison.<\/p>\n<p>But just take a peek at the celebrity magazines.\u00a0 What do they talk about?\u00a0 This beautiful skinny person just caught her husband cheating on her. That skin and bones movie star was admitted to rehab for drug addiction.\u00a0 And on it goes. They may have beauty and fame, but not the true riches of love and security.<\/p>\n<p>There are exceptions, of course, but the point is, we should treasure our true riches instead of longing to look like the famous folks.\u00a0 Take a good look at your life.\u00a0 What do you have that is better than the \u201ctreasures\u201d of the television celebrities?\u00a0 Maybe your beauty falls in the \u201clittle\u201d category, but if you have the joy of knowing the Lord, you have great riches!<\/p>\n<p>Besides, have you ever been to a nursing home?\u00a0 Can you tell by looking at these folks who was a great beauty and who was average or even homely?\u00a0 None of those things matter in the end. What matters is how we use our lives and if we make them count.\u00a0 Let\u2019s keep our eyes on the true goal.
