{"id":397,"date":"2013-02-13T03:20:31","date_gmt":"2013-02-13T08:20:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/?p=397"},"modified":"2012-12-13T09:21:34","modified_gmt":"2012-12-13T14:21:34","slug":"maybe-its-the-timing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/beyondgorgeous\/2013\/02\/maybe-its-the-timing.html","title":{"rendered":"Maybe It&#8217;s the Timing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You have been faithfully keeping to the plan and stepping up the exercise.\u00a0 Why is the scale not moving?<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday we talked about how too many calories &#8212; even the right kind of calories &#8212; can stall out your weight loss.\u00a0 Writing down what you eat can help you figure out if this is your problem.\u00a0 You should also write down the times you eat &#8212; because that may help you discover another issue.Your problem may be <em>when <\/em>you eat.\u00a0 If you eat too many calories at one time, particularly if you eat them late at night, your weight loss may come to a stand-still.<\/p>\n<p>Try to keep your food spaced\u00a0 evenly throughout the day.\u00a0Many times I hear, \u201cI\u2019m too busy to eat during the day, so I just save all my calories to use up at supper time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Not a good idea.\u00a0 Your body thinks it is starving and shuts down the metabolism into starvation mode. \u00a0Click on\u00a0<a title=\"Skip a meal\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/?s=Skip+a+meal\" target=\"_blank\">Does it help to skip a meal?<\/a>\u00a0to review that post. \u00a0Because you are too hungry, you use poor judgement and eat too much.\u00a0 Then you don\u2019t have time to burn off the extra fuel before you go to bed. As you are sleeping your autopilot busily instructs the team to turn everything into fat and store it on your backside in case the famine hits again tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Ideally, you will have three moderately-sized meals and two to three snacks.\u00a0 Try to make vegetables, preferable raw ones, a part of every meal.\u00a0 The fiber in the veggies will help keep your blood sugar from spiking Remember that spiking blood sugar causes an insulin dump, which causes your body to get the message to store fat.\u00a0 Besides, they fill you up and are nutrient-dense. I buy a pre-prepared tray of veggies for snacks, because I know that at weak moments I will pick up whatever is easiest. So I make raw vegetables easiest.<\/p>\n<p>Plan to eat your final meal early rather than late, if at all possible, and don\u2019t eat anything after supper.\u00a0 Take a walk or a bike ride or do something that involves moving in the evening. It doesn\u2019t have to be your main workout. For some people workouts late in the day cause insomnia.\u00a0 If that\u2019s the case for you, just do some mild exercise.\u00a0 The point is to keep the glucagon (the spend-the-fat hormone) active throughout the evening and night time hours.<\/p>\n<p>Trust me.\u00a0 If you do the right, healthy things for your body, the extra fat will come off.\u00a0 If you keep making those smart choices, it will stay off.\u00a0 If it isn\u2019t happening, then there is just some glitch that needs to be fixed.\u00a0 So we\u2019ll fix it!<\/p>\n<p>How is the weight loss coming for you?\u00a0 People who are on diets love to talk about it &#8212; and people who aren\u2019t don\u2019t want to hear it!\u00a0 So let\u2019s talk about it here where we are all interested.
