{"id":339,"date":"2013-03-18T03:00:41","date_gmt":"2013-03-18T07:00:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/?p=339"},"modified":"2012-12-14T05:26:14","modified_gmt":"2012-12-14T10:26:14","slug":"an-army-to-the-rescue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/beyondgorgeous\/2013\/03\/an-army-to-the-rescue.html","title":{"rendered":"An Army to the Rescue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some days it seems like the cookies are holding us captive.\u00a0 Temptation surrounds us and we can do nothing but fail.\u00a0 It seems hopeless.<\/p>\n<p>Elijah\u2019s servant certainly felt hopeless and helpless when he looked out in the morning and saw the army of Syrians surrounding the city.\u00a0 They were there to kill the prophet Elijah, and there was no way he could escape.<\/p>\n<p>Elijah wasn\u2019t worried.\u00a0 \u201cThere are more with us than with them,\u201d he told his trembling servant.\u00a0 \u201cLord,\u201d he prayed. \u201cOpen this young man\u2019s eyes so he can see what You have shown me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>God answered &#8212; and the young man suddenly had a different view of the situation. The horses and chariots were still there. The soldiers were still armed and ready to attack.\u00a0 But behind them and above them he saw far more horses and chariots &#8212; and these were of fire.\u00a0 The man saw the host of angels sent to protect God\u2019s servant.<\/p>\n<p>The lesson for us today?\u00a0 Don\u2019t focus on the temptations or your past failures.\u00a0 Look above them to God.\u00a0 He has all the strength and power you need, ready for you to claim it.
