{"id":2091,"date":"2013-01-23T03:06:31","date_gmt":"2013-01-23T08:06:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/?p=2091"},"modified":"2012-12-12T07:08:29","modified_gmt":"2012-12-12T12:08:29","slug":"stepping-up-the-plan-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/beyondgorgeous\/2013\/01\/stepping-up-the-plan-2.html","title":{"rendered":"Stepping Up the Plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>How are the steps coming?\u00a0 The plan is to take the average of your steps for three days and then each week start adding 200 daily steps.\u00a0 This is a small, but doable, change and those who started out with me should be seeing some increase in their movement by now.<\/p>\n<p>But maybe you are stalling out at working in more steps.\u00a0 Or maybe you feel you aren\u2019t doing enough.\u00a0 If so, you are ready to add a daily walk to your routine.<\/p>\n<p>Walking has lots of benefits.\u00a0 It doesn\u2019t take special equipment, other than a good pair of walking shoes.\u00a0 It isn\u2019t strenuous for those who aren\u2019t accustomed to exercise and, best of all, it frees your mind to think. \u00a0 With exercise classes and weight equipment, your focus has to be on what your muscles are doing. Otherwise you might clonk yourself on the head with a weight, as I have done, or lose your step and get trampled by the class moving right when you are going left.\u00a0 Also been there\/done that!<\/p>\n<p>For the next couple of weeks we will be focusing mainly on walking \u2014 and more.\u00a0 We will discuss how to make your daily walk into a deeper walk with God.<\/p>\n<p>First things first, though.\u00a0 To succeed you have to start with a plan.\u00a0 When are you going to walk?\u00a0 Look at your schedule and see where it will fit best for you.\u00a0 The more difficult it is to do it, the less likely that you will actually accomplish it.<\/p>\n<p>Morning before breakfast is a good time for physical reasons.\u00a0 Your body will burn up to 300% more fat if you exercise while fasting.\u00a0 You might as walk do it when it will do the most good.\u00a0 Also, the earlier you do it, the more likely that it will happen.\u00a0 If you miss a morning you can pick it up in the afternoon or evening.\u00a0 If you plan on evening and miss, you have lost your exercise day.<\/p>\n<p>If you work at a job, lunch time might be a good option.\u00a0 Take your walking shoes with you and plan a route to walk.<\/p>\n<p>Slump time might be a good time for you.\u00a0 Exercise lifts your mood, helps you think, and gets you away from the refrigerator.\u00a0 A walk at slump time may turn your low time into a high.<\/p>\n<p>Evening walks have the advantage that they burn off some of the calories of the last meal of the day and the long-term effects of the glucagon release works throughout the night.<\/p>\n<p>You are unique.
