(II Cor. 1:20)<\/p>\n<p>I squatted down and looked the annoying, whining child in the eye.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are going to stay with me, we need to get something straight,\u201d I told him calmly.\u00a0 \u201cI am a \u2018yes person.\u2019\u00a0 I always say \u2018yes\u2019 if I can.\u00a0 If you want or need something, ask me. If it is possible, I will say \u2018yes.\u2019\u00a0 I will only say \u2018no\u2019 if there is a good reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>I went on to explain that, if he thought my decision was a mistake or that I didn\u2019t have all the facts, he could have one appeal and explain his case. After that he had to drop it or face some preset consequences. \u00a0That child, who was known for his persistent whining and nagging, cheerfully accepted my terms.\u00a0 He tested me a bit and I followed through with my promise. I said \u201cyes\u201d if I could and serenely dished out the consequences when he nagged me.\u00a0 After that we were fine and the summer he spent with me was enjoyable for both of us.<\/p>\n<p>Why did he cooperate with me when other sitters were ready to despair?\u00a0 Because he didn\u2019t feel he had to fight for his rights. He trusted that I would only say \u201cno\u201d for a good reason.<\/p>\n<p>How much more peace we would have if we trusted God to be a \u201cyes\u201d God!\u00a0 Don\u2019t we often act as if our Father in Heaven was like an earthly parent who will always say \u201cno\u201d until he is nagged and whined into compliance with our wishes?<\/p>\n<p>He <em>is<\/em> a \u201cyes\u201d God.\u00a0 Over and over we see it in scripture.\u00a0 He provided the needs of the Israelites in the wilderness. He gave Hannah a child.\u00a0 He gave Israel victory over her enemies. I can\u2019t think of a single time He refused a reasonable request.<\/p>\n<p>And that\u2019s certainly true in my life. He hasn\u2019t just given me everything I need.
