{"id":1575,"date":"2012-05-14T09:59:42","date_gmt":"2012-05-14T13:59:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/?p=1575"},"modified":"2012-05-14T09:59:42","modified_gmt":"2012-05-14T13:59:42","slug":"how-success-can-hold-you-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/beyondgorgeous\/2012\/05\/how-success-can-hold-you-back.html","title":{"rendered":"How Success Can Hold You Back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>&#8230;Ye have dwelt long enough in this mount.\u00a0 Deut. 1:6<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mountains aren\u2019t bad places to dwell.\u00a0 Metaphorically speaking, mountains are the high points of our lives.\u00a0 The trouble only comes when we are stuck on the mountain.<\/p>\n<p>The children of Israel had made it out of the slavery of Egypt and had wandered in the desert for 40 years because of their lack of faith in God to give them the promised land.\u00a0 The last years were spent on a mountain &#8212; Mt. Horeb.\u00a0 Then the time came.\u00a0 God gave the word. It was time to move on and take hold of the promise.<\/p>\n<p>There probably was a time when you were in a valley of despair over your weight and health.\u00a0 That prompted you to do something drastic &#8212; like start a healthy eating and exercise program.\u00a0 That desperation drove you to leave behind your slavery to food and to keep on going.\u00a0 At last you reached your first goal &#8212; and how good that felt!\u00a0 Never did giving feel so sweet as when I gave away my entire wardrobe of fat clothes.<\/p>\n<p>But the temptation is to stay stuck on that first mountain.\u00a0 Personally, I feel like I\u2019ve been given my marching orders.\u00a0 I\u2019m certainly stronger, healthier, and thinner than when I started my journey.\u00a0 I still wear my smaller clothes.\u00a0 But I\u2019m not at the end of the journey yet.\u00a0 Time to leave this mountain and do something drastically different so I can have drastically different results.<\/p>\n<p>How about you?\u00a0 Are you hovering on a point partway to your goal?
