(Been there!)\u00a0 But one of the best things you can do to speed up that dragging metabolism is to get out in the sunshine.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/files\/2012\/05\/207166_10150566829270537_758175536_18018906_565319_n8.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1560\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/261\/2012\/05\/207166_10150566829270537_758175536_18018906_565319_n8-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>I know, we\u2019ve been told for years that the sun is our enemy and will give us skin cancer.\u00a0 That\u2019s true, and you definitely don\u2019t want to overdo and burn your skin.\u00a0 However, now scientists are discovering that moderate time in the sun is good for you.<\/p>\n<p>One reason you need the sun is to get Vitamin D, the sunshine vitamin.\u00a0 Your can get it from some foods and from supplements, but studies show that you get more useable Vitamin D from the sun.\u00a0 Studies also show that there is a connection between sufficient Vitamin D levels and weight loss.\u00a0 There\u2019s so much info on that, it will take a blog on its own to cover.\u00a0 Here I\u2019ll just say that several studies show there is a strong correlation between the amount of Vitamin D in your system and your fat loss.\u00a0 About 15 minutes in the sun (without sunscreen) around mid-day will give most folks the amount they need.\u00a0 The farther north you live, the more difficult it is to get enough of the \u201cgood\u201d rays, though, and darker skinned people need more time outside.<\/p>\n<p>Sunshine does other things for your metabolism.\u00a0 It lifts your mood.\u00a0 When your mood is\u00a0 up, your activity level starts to rise, too.\u00a0 You are more optimistic about your weight loss results and feel energized.<\/p>\n<p>When it is dark, your autopilot (the part of your brain that regulates your body functions while you go about conscious life) thinks it is winter and keeps you in hibernation stage. It slows you down and stores up the fat in case spring is late.\u00a0 If you stay indoors away from natural sunlight most of the time, your autopilot will think you live in perpetual winter and will do its best to keep the fat stored up so you won\u2019t starve.\u00a0 When you are in the sunshine, it feels free to let it go.<\/p>\n<p>So go for a walk in the sunshine on your lunch break.\u00a0 Take up gardening for a hobby.\u00a0 Get out your old tennis racket and start playing again.
