<\/a>I saw this on a poster intended to be funny, but it’s actually true!\u00a0 While you are going about your business, your \u201cautopilot\u201d is busy taking care of the business of keeping you alive.\u00a0 Lots of things are happening at the cellular level.<\/p>\nWhen you eat food that is easily digested, a huge load of sugar is dumped into your bloodstream. The autopilot sends out a message to the pancreas to pump out lots of insulin to take care of it.\u00a0 The insulin has the \u201ckey\u201d to let the sugar into the cell and gives the message, \u201cHere\u2019s the fuel — store it up and don\u2019t waste it.\u00a0 Make fat.\u201d\u00a0 The cells comply and stuff the sugar in. Your body gets the message to store fat and slow down to keep it on reserve.<\/p>\n
So if you eat high-glycemic food, you are giving the message to your cells to store fat, and after awhile those cells get really good at it.\u00a0 Everything you eat seems to turn to fat and it is tough to get it off.<\/p>\n
So if you want your body to comply and stay slim, don\u2019t give it the wrong message!\u00a0 Feed it foods that are low glycemic. These foods digest slowly and the fuel is released gradually into the bloodstream, so you can avoid the sugar dump and the insulin rush.\u00a0 The three things that digest slowly are protein, fiber, and fat.\u00a0 Yes, fat.\u00a0 More about fats – the good, the bad, and the ugly, in tomorrow\u2019s post.<\/p>\n
