{"id":1180,"date":"2012-01-11T14:00:30","date_gmt":"2012-01-11T19:00:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/?p=1180"},"modified":"2012-01-11T14:01:06","modified_gmt":"2012-01-11T19:01:06","slug":"the-true-answer-to-emotional-eating","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/beyondgorgeous\/2012\/01\/the-true-answer-to-emotional-eating.html","title":{"rendered":"The True Answer to Emotional Eating"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Do you ever eat, simply because you feel unloved or unfulfilled?\u00a0 It\u2019s not unusual for people to try to fill themselves up with food when they are emotionally empty.\u00a0 But it never works.\u00a0 When the food is gone and the sugar is packed tightly into the fat cells and straining the waistband, loneliness and boredom come back again in full force.\u00a0 Now you fee unattractive as well as unloved and unfulfilled.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/files\/2012\/01\/207166_10150566829270537_758175536_18018906_565319_n6.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1181\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/261\/2012\/01\/207166_10150566829270537_758175536_18018906_565319_n6-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>\u00a0Then answer? True love and true fulfillment come only from God.\u00a0 He is the only One who will never let you down and who can truly satisfy you.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut, I have faith,\u201d you might say. \u201cI believe there is a God.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Knowing God is there is not enough.\u00a0 Neither is going through a religious ritual, whether it be administered by a priest or by a Baptist pastor when you walk down an aisle.\u00a0 It comes from surrender.<\/p>\n<p>I tell my\u00a0 Sunday School children the story of the tightrope walker over Niagra Falls to help them understand true faith.\u00a0The expert daredevil easily walked across the slippery wet rope above the rushing water which crashed with killing intensity on the jagged rocks below.\u00a0 The crowd held its breath, then cheered wildly as he made it safely to the other side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor my next feat,\u201d he said.\u00a0 \u201cI\u2019m going to push a wheelbarrow across the falls on this rope.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes!\u201d screamed the crowd \u201cDo it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>And he did.\u00a0 He safely and easily pushed that wheelbarrow on that narrow rope to the other side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor my final feat, I\u2019m going to push a person across the falls in this wheelbarrow,\u201d he announced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYes!\u201d screamed the crowd. \u201cYou can do it!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWho will be my first volunteer?\u201d he asked.<\/p>\n<p>Silence.\u00a0 It\u2019s one thing to believe the guy can do something amazing.\u00a0 It\u2019s quite another to believe it enough to get in the wheelbarrow. \u00a0And that\u2019s the problem people often have with God.\u00a0 They are willing to believe in an abstract sort of way, but it\u2019s another thing entirely to get in God\u2019s wheelbarrow &#8212; to give everything up to Him.<\/p>\n<p>If you REALLY believe God, the Almighty, the maker of the universe, the one with all things under His control, you don\u2019t try to make deals with Him.\u00a0 You don\u2019t casually call Him \u201cJ.C.\u201d and you don\u2019t brush Him off until it is convenient for you.\u00a0 You bow before Him and give up.\u00a0 You get in His wheelbarrow.<\/p>\n<p>And when you are in God\u2019s wheelbarrow, you don\u2019t have to depend on the weak support of people, and certainly not on food.
