(Sorry!)<\/p>\n<p><em><a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondgorgeous\/files\/2011\/11\/207166_10150566829270537_758175536_18018906_565319_n14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-1042\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/261\/2011\/11\/207166_10150566829270537_758175536_18018906_565319_n14-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Unbaked batter has no calories.\u00a0<\/em> Not so.\u00a0 Even though those scrapings on the edge of the bowl are not yet cooked, they still count.<\/p>\n<p><em>Edges of baked goods are free food.<\/em>\u00a0 Sorry again.\u00a0 While burnt and crumbly edges are not the tastiest part of the treat, they contain as much sugar and carbs as the better part in the middle.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cTasting\u201d calories do not count.<\/em>\u00a0 Well, no, your body can\u2019t tell that you were only eating that cookie or piece of homemade fudge because you had to make sure it was fit to serve.\u00a0 It just knows sugar has arrived and sends the message to the pancreas to pump out the insulin, which delivers the \u201cstore fat\u201d message.<\/p>\n<p><em>Eating the lopsided or broken goodies which are not good enough to serve to company is noble and should not be punished by weight gain.<\/em>\u00a0 Well, I would agree if our bodies would agree.\u00a0 Again, our autopilots can\u2019t tell noble calories and sugar from ignoble ones.<\/p>\n<p><em>Nibbles do not add up to significant calorie numbers.\u00a0<\/em> Oh, but they do!\u00a0 Quite quickly, too.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bites&#8230;..well, you get the picture.\u00a0<\/em> Tiny dabs and bits of sugary stuff turns into sugar in the bloodstream and puts your body into weight gaining mode, even before the feasting day arrives.<\/p>\n<p>If you are going to add calories for a day or two, at least take time to enjoy them.\u00a0 Instead of thoughtless bits and bites that you don\u2019t really even like that much, sit down with goodies on a plate and eat them with a fork.\u00a0 They are going to count, anyway, so make the most of them!<\/p>\n<p>And have a very Happy Thanksgiving!<\/p>\n<p>Eating to live and living for Christ,<\/p>\n<p>Susan Jordan Brown<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For those of you who are cooking and baking in preparation for a big family dinner tomorrow &#8212; here are some favorite food myths debunked.
