Back in February, I mentioned that one of my New Year’s resolutions was to surround myself with people I admire. The person on the top of my list was Mike Leach<\/a>, my writing\/editing partner on several books, and a dear friend, mentor, and foster dad.<\/p>\n

I told Mike that I wanted to be sure to visit with him at least twice a year, that ours was a friendship that was very important to me. It was worth a regular trip to Connecticut.<\/p>\n

“I think it’s easier if Vickie and I come to see you,” he said. <\/p>\n

So today that’s what they’re doing. Instead of writing about all the nuggets of wisdom he’s tossed me through the years–like always erring on the side of compassion–I am listening with a notebook and learning by example. And I’m trying to find a babysitter so that we can go out to dinner. If I cooked, it would truly be the Last Supper<\/a> on Holy Thursday<\/a>. (Ask Eric if you think I’m kidding.)<\/p>\n

It’s kind of ironic that Mike and Vickie are coming to celebrate a meal with our family on the evening that Jesus gathered his closest friends to break fresh bread (not Wonder<\/a>). The Son of God knew how important friendships were to holiness. I’m starting to appreciate that myself.<\/p>\n
