Text Messages with Patton Dodd"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"mt-enclosure mt-enclosure-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"textmessages.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/wp-media.beliefnet.com\/sites\/71\/import\/imgs\/textmessages.jpg\" width=\"571\" height=\"140\" class=\"mt-image-center\" style=\"text-align: center;margin: 0 auto 20px\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Some of you know <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beyondblue\/2008\/01\/patton-dodd-how-do-you-move-be.html\">that I hold Patton Dodd in very high esteem<\/a>, because his essay <a href=\"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/story\/222\/story_22246_1.html\">&#8220;Optimism Is Depressing&#8221; <\/a>was so incredibly helpful when I was trying to make sense of all the folks around me who assured me that the antidote to my depression was found in the pages of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thesecret.tv\/\">&#8220;The Secret,&#8221; a radical interpretation of the law of attraction written by Rhonda Byrne.<\/a> I doubted myself and castrated myself and then had my dog do the same because I couldn&#8217;t articulate what, exactly, in that book made me shudder. <a href=\"\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/Faiths\/Christianity\/2007\/08\/Optimism-Is-Depressing.aspx\">Until I read Patton&#8217;s essay. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Man, he was like Moses walking down the mountain with the God&#8217;s law, and I said, &#8220;Amen, Patton! Amen!&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>I do find him very very wise.
