so much for keeping the campaign to just Delaware media outlets &#8212; so check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.yahoo.com\/s\/ap\/20101020\/ap_on_el_se\/us_delaware_senate\">AP<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/religion.blogs.cnn.com\/2010\/10\/20\/my-take-odonnells-and-americas-first-amendment-ignorance\/\">CNN <\/a>and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.getreligion.org\/2010\/10\/first-things-first\/\">GetReligion<\/a> for more on this story.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, in O&#8217;Donnell&#8217;s defense, although the First Amendment does call for the government to neither establish nor interfere with religious practice, it doesn&#8217;t actually contain the phrase &#8220;separation of church and state&#8221; &#8212; that came from Founding Father <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usconstitution.net\/jeffwall.html\">Thomas Jefferson, in a different document.<\/a>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If you watched &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beliefbeat\/2010\/10\/pbs-series-on-faith-god-in-america.html\">God in America&#8221; on PBS <\/a>last week &#8212; I&#8217;m still catching up, but I did catch the first four hours &#8212; you&#8217;ll know that TJ, while <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jefferson_Bible\">pretty much the opposite of an evangelical Christian<\/a>&nbsp;(Stephen Prothero even describes him as &#8220;spiritual, not religious&#8221;), had defended the rights of Virginia&#8217;s Baptists to worship freely, which is probably what prompted him to include the following in the First Amendment: <\/p>\n<blockquote style=\"MARGIN-RIGHT: 0px\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><strong>Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof&#8230;
