The story doesn&#8217;t note that six of the nine justices are still&nbsp;Catholic, however, and that <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beliefbeat\/2010\/05\/supreme-court-kagan-jew.html\">Kagan, a Conservative Jew,&nbsp;is replacing John Paul Stevens, a liberal Protestant<\/a>. In other words, all signs point to the status quo being maintained re: Roe v. Wade. (Or am I missing something?)<\/p>\n<p>While<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jweekly.com\/article\/full\/58871\/jewish-organizations-praise-kagans-confirmation\/\"> most Jewish groups have cheered Kagan on<\/a>, especially when<a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beliefbeat\/2010\/06\/jews-on-first-newsweeks-influential-rabbis-elena-kagan-gay-jews-and-more.html\"> she revealed her witty side during the confirmation hearings<\/a>, one of my old newspapers, <em>The Journal News<\/em>,&nbsp;did report a protest in New York from the Orthodox group&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lohud.com\/article\/20100725\/NEWS02\/7250407\/-1\/newsfront\/Ossining-protest-from-Jewish-group-today-over-Kagan-nomination\">Torah Jews for Decency<\/a>, due to her tolerant stance on gays in the military.<\/p>\n<p>Kagan&#8217;s&nbsp;confirmation concludes a busy religion news week for America&#8217;s courts, with the lawsuit to stop <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beliefbeat\/2010\/08\/nyc-denies-landmark-status-to-ground-zero-building-slated-for-islamic-center.html\">New York&#8217;s &#8220;Ground Zero mosque&#8221;&nbsp;<\/a>and the overturned <a href=\"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/beliefbeat\/2010\/08\/religious-reaction-roundup-to-overturn-of-prop-8-gay-marriage-ban.html#comments\">Prop. 8 gay marriage&nbsp;<\/a>ban (and&nbsp;pending appeal)&nbsp;in California&nbsp;working their way up the judicial ladder.
