It’s been less than a week since President Obama took the podium at American University to make the case for comprehensive immigration reform <\/a>— a speech that resonated with Catholics<\/a>, Jews<\/a>, evangelicals <\/a>and mainline Protestants<\/a> — and the clergy involved in the interfaith movement for new legislation used the July 4 holiday to preach on this issue to congregations across the country.<\/p>\n

In Texas, The New York Times reported<\/a> that “pastors, priests, rabbis and ministers used their Independence Day sermons to promote the cause of fixing a broken immigration system.” The Houston Chronicle also covered this story.<\/a><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the San Diego Union Tribune reported <\/a>that immigration officials have granted “Son of Hamas” author Mosab Hassan Yousef political asylum in the United States. Yousef, a Christian convert who spied on Palestinian terrorists for Israel and has been disowned by his family, said he plans to seek U.S. citizenship and apply to Harvard University to pursue a master’s degree in Middle Eastern studies.
