\"image\"<\/a>\u00a0 So it’s bees again. AND poetry. Because really ~ why not?? What’s more \u00a0like June than the hum of bees, their own gently busy music? The poetry is what comes of watching, good Buddhist contemplation ~<\/p>\n

Here’s John Ciardi’s poem, “Bees & Morning Glories”:<\/p>\n

Morning glories, pale as a mist drying,
\nfade from the heat of the day, but already
\nhunchback bees in pirate pants and with peg-leg
\nhooks have found and are boarding them.<\/p>\n

This could do for the sack of the imaginary
\nfleet. The raiders loot the galleons even as they
\none by one vanish and leave still real
\nonly what has been snatched out of the spell.<\/p>\n

I’ve never seen bees more purposeful except
\nwhen the hive is threatened. They know
\nthe good of it must be grabbed and hauled
\nbefore the whole feast wisps off.<\/p>\n

They swarm in light and, fast, dive in,
\nthen drone out, slow, their pantaloons heavy
\nwith gold and sunlight. The line of them,
\nlike thin smoke, wafts over the hedge.<\/p>\n

And back again to find the fleet gone.
\nWell, they got this day’s good of it. Off
\nthey cruise to what stays open longer.
\nNothing green gives honey. And by now<\/p>\n

you’d have to look twice to see more than green
\nwhere all those white sails trembled
\nwhen the world was misty and open
\nand the prize was there to be taken.<\/p>\n
