such systems in two respects:<\/p>\n<p>First, it <em>unapologetically<\/em> underscores the <em>martial<\/em> character of the martial arts.\u00a0 \u201cMartial,\u201d it is all too easy to forget nowadays, means \u201cof or pertaining to <em>war.<\/em>\u201d Historically speaking, it went without saying that the martial arts were the warrior arts.\u00a0 Thus, all who trained in them trained to become warriors.<\/p>\n<p>Given this last point, Warrior Flow instructors, in training their students to become warriors, train them not to merely <em>survive <\/em>if and when they must deploy their skill to incapacitate threats to themselves, their loved ones, and\/or other would-be victims.\u00a0 Warrior Flow students are taught, as soldiers in war are taught, to <em>flourish, <\/em>to settle for nothing less than <em>victory <\/em>over those who would choose to make of themselves the enemy of God and man by preying upon innocents.<\/p>\n<p>This means that Warrior Flow students are taught from day one that theirs will be a training designed to maximize their odds of destroying the enemy, and doing so in the absence of a long face.\u00a0 Because students\u2014training as they do to become not \u201ctough guys\u201d but, rather, warriors\u2014train to unleash, within a microsecond and with brutal efficiency, unrelenting violence against all and only those by whom they are imminently threatened, they are powered by a conviction in the moral righteousness of their cause.<\/p>\n<p>Warrior Flow students do not \u201cfight.\u201d\u00a0 Those who train in the pugilistic and \u201ccombat\u201d sports \u201cfight.\u201d\u00a0 This is fine and good and as it should be, for sport is sport.\u00a0 On the streets, however, \u201cfighting\u201d is the stuff of adolescents, and adults who fight in any venue other than those of sporting events are at once idiotic, embarrassing, and sophomoric.\u00a0 In contrast, Warrior Flow students train for <em>battle<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>They train for <em>war<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Nor is this hyperbole.\u00a0 Whether an act of violent aggression against an innocent is perpetrated by a criminal predator or your garden-variety douche bag is neither here nor there: Either way, people have been seriously injured and killed in such attacks.\u00a0 Therefore, in Warrior Flow, practitioners regard all such attacks as acts of war\u2014and train to respond accordingly.<\/p>\n<p>This brings us to the second respect in which Warrior Flow distinguishes itself from all other arts.\u00a0 I refer to its training modality.<\/p>\n<p>Unlike all other martial arts of both the classical and \u201crealist\u201d varieties, Warrior Flow\u2019s training modality is at once <em>sub<\/em>-technique and <em>post<\/em>-technique.\u00a0 Warrior Flow explicitly <em>transcends<\/em> all techniques.<\/p>\n<p>This is critical for two reasons:<\/p>\n<p>(1)Most of those systems that are of a piece with what are commonly known as \u201cWorld War II Close Quarter Combatives,\u201d \u201creality-based self-defense,\u201d \u201cmartial realism,\u201d etc. impart to their students a battery of moves, of techniques that, <em>if<\/em> students can succeed in executing them, will indeed prove to be devastating to those against whom they\u2019re deployed.\u00a0 This focus upon such techniques demands of students that they possess at least a fundamental understanding of human <em>anatomy, <\/em>for the strikes that they are trained to deliver are aimed at potentially lethal targets on the body.<\/p>\n<p>(2)These systems note, correctly, that while physical training is obviously necessary, it is not sufficient, for martial excellence is impossible without <em>mental<\/em> conditioning.\u00a0 Yet inasmuch as the physical component of these systems centers in the perfection of techniques, whatever mental training they offer (if anything on the order of genuine training in this area is even offered) can only ever be an extraneous accompaniment to the physical training.<\/p>\n<p>As such, the contemporary world of the martial arts presupposes that the human-person is a <em>duality <\/em>of mind and body.\u00a0 \u00a0This is a philosophical fiction that has been in circulation for centuries.<\/p>\n<p>Warrior Flow, recognizing, as it does, that the person is a <em>unity<\/em> of mind and body and that, moreover, the body is the <em>subconscious mind<\/em>, as neuroscientist Joe Dispensa describes it, is having none of it.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, Warrior Flow\u2019s <em>principles<\/em>-based<em>, <\/em>as opposed to <em>techniques-<\/em>based, training modality: Warrior Flow practitioners train not in <em>moves, <\/em>but in <em>moving<\/em>, and moving with peerless economy of motion.\u00a0 Yet\u2014and this is unequivocal\u2014each and every movement, from striking a dummy, a heavy bag, or one\u2019s training partner to lifting a glass, stepping from one point to another, and brushing one\u2019s teeth, every movement is related to every other in serving an overarching <em>telos.\u00a0 <\/em>Every movement, that is, possesses a larger purpose that eclipses the short-term, surface purpose brought to fruition by its execution.<\/p>\n<p>That larger purpose is nothing more or less than <em>the annihilation of the enemy<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Warrior Flow students train to perfect their movement, not for movement\u2019s sake, but for the sake of moving with an effortlessness that will upset an aggressor\u2019s perception of space and time just long enough to remove him from the planet.<\/p>\n<p>Practitioners train not in <em>what<\/em> to do, but in <em>how <\/em>to do whatever it is they decide they need to do.\u00a0 They learn about human anatomy well enough, but it is mostly indirectly, via their immersion in the machinations of human <em>physiology<\/em>\u2014i.e. the principles, processes, the mechanisms by which the anatomical ingredients of the human body constitute the organism that it is. <em>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The five principles of Warrior Flow are as follows:<\/p>\n<p><strong>(a)Equilibrium control<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBalance\u201d is a term that seems to endlessly spring from the lips of martial artists.\u00a0 It is commonplace.\u00a0 Equilibrium control, however, is something else.\u00a0 Obviously, it encompasses balance, but it surpasses it as well.<\/p>\n<p>In assuming control of one\u2019s equilibrium, one ensures that all of the countless components of one\u2019s body are making all of the countless mutual adjustments that they must make so that when one must blast the enemy one can do so, solidly rooted, with one\u2019s whole body lined up behind one\u2019s strikes.<\/p>\n<p>Remember: Warrior Flow students do <em>not <\/em>train to move for movement\u2019s sake.\u00a0 And they do not strike for the sake of stinging or bruising an attacker.\u00a0 Since they perfect their movement for the sake of neutralizing belligerents, they seek to guarantee that every strike possesses maximal power, bone-crushing might designed to critically injure, maim, and kill.\u00a0 But only by propelling one\u2019s strikes by one\u2019s whole body will this amount of power be generated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(b)Subtle Muscle-Control<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Like \u201cbalance,\u201d so too are \u201crelaxed\u201d and \u201cloose\u201d terms that are the common currency of martial artists.\u00a0 Yet, like \u201cbalance,\u201d these last two are insufficiently precise, being simultaneously too broad and too narrow in scope.\u00a0 Neither, given both their denotative and connotative meanings, are they sufficiently conducive toward the ultimate goal of crushing the enemy, for if one is either too \u201crelaxed\u201d or too \u201cloose\u201d one can have one\u2019s life extinguished.<\/p>\n<p>Simply put, subtle muscle-control is the condition that obtains when the Many become One, when the body\u2019s muscles, being unitized, operate with maximal fluidity and efficiency, all enlisted at once in the service of exploiting all of the possibilities within the space-time continuum for the purpose of becoming <em>unavailable<\/em>, yet <em>unavoidable<\/em>, to the enemy.<\/p>\n<p>Reality-based martial arts systems stress the need for <em>gross<\/em> muscle movements. \u00a0This emphasis is meant to distinguish these systems from the classical martial arts, with the latter\u2019s focus upon techniques that tend to be more complicated and, thus, less practical.\u00a0 What the instructors of these combative programs neglect, though, is that to maximize their students\u2019 odds of successfully prosecuting the \u201cgross\u201d muscle movements that they teach, their students need\u2026subtle muscle-control!<\/p>\n<p>Even the engagement of so-called \u201cgross\u201d muscle movements requires the refinement of a seemingly infinite number of other movements that must transpire in order for the \u201cgross\u201d action to be executed for effect.\u00a0 Without the perfection of granularity of movement, the successful actualization of the \u201cgross\u201d movement\u2014the delivery of a devastating strike to the enemy\u2014is significantly less likely to occur.<\/p>\n<p>Subtle muscle-control also promotes <strong><em>versatility, <\/em><\/strong>the ability, within a micro-second, to make one\u2019s natural weapon of choice at the point of impact, to, say, substitute a chop for a straight punch, a hammer fist for a spear hand or a palm strike, etc. depending upon whether one determines that the dynamic of the battle had changed sufficiently to demand the adjustment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(c)Perceptual Awareness<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This includes two dimensions.\u00a0 The first is <strong><em>interoception<\/em><\/strong>. \u00a0This is simply an awareness of all that one is feeling within one\u2019s own body, particularly as one moves.<\/p>\n<p>It also, however, consists of sensory awareness of one\u2019s surroundings. \u00a0Within the framework of combat, the development of perceptual awareness obviously consists in kinesthetic, optical, and auditory development.\u00a0 Yet it as well not only transcends each of the senses <em>individually<\/em>.\u00a0 It transcends them <em>collectively<\/em>, for perceptual awareness is the martial virtue of being able to perceive with the mind\u2019s eye, so to speak, to discern the context of the battle and, within that context, the potentialities for victory over the enemy that have not yet been realized, options that can\u2019t be seen by those who lack understanding, those who haven\u2019t be trained.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(d)Dynamic Coordination<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>There is dynamic coordination where the Warrior Flow student has weaved the last three principles\u2014equilibrium control, subtle muscle-control, and perceptual awareness\u2014together.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(e)Creativity<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The situation constituted by the coordination of the first three principles permits the Warrior Flow student to spontaneously create an ever-proliferating array of possible ways within the ever-fluctuating dynamics of a confrontation to vanquish the enemy from the land of the living.<\/p>\n<p>Now\u2014and this is of crucial importance to grasp\u2014each of these five principles are as <em>mental<\/em> as they are physical in nature. \u00a0In glaring contrast to the founders and instructors of other real-world combat systems for whose regimen of mental conditioning is essentially additive, Warrior Flow recognizes that the mental and the physical are, in practice, indistinguishable.\u00a0 Accordingly, the mental training is baked into the cake of the physical training\u2014just as the physical training is intrinsic to the mental training.<\/p>\n<p>The two are one.<\/p>\n<p>We should take care to be even more exact on this score: Within Warrior Flow, the physical and the mental fuse into a single, seamless <em>Will<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Perfect Clarity<\/strong>, <strong>Moral Certainty<\/strong>, and <strong>Ruthless Intention<\/strong>\u2014these are the three inseparable dimensions of the Warrior Flow student\u2019s will:<\/p>\n<p>Unlike in far, far too many other martial arts, there is no mixed messaging in Warrior Flow: Students, as I mentioned above, are informed from the first moment that they become acquainted with the art that they will be trained to \u201cwin the fight of their lives.\u201d\u00a0 They are not trained to \u201c<em>survive<\/em> violence,\u201d but, rather, to <em>win.\u00a0 <\/em>To fucking win.<\/p>\n<p>Whether the attacker is one or many, students have perfect clarity and moral certainty regarding both the nature and righteousness of their response.\u00a0 And they know that their response is the raw, undifferentiated embodiment of ruthless intention: They are to scorch the Earth with the bodies of their assailants.<\/p>\n<p>No ambiguity. No hesitation.
