{"id":1692,"date":"2017-06-14T19:42:17","date_gmt":"2017-06-14T23:42:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/attheintersectionoffaithandculture\/?p=1692"},"modified":"2017-06-14T19:42:17","modified_gmt":"2017-06-14T23:42:17","slug":"james-hodgkinson-face-hate-member-resistance","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/attheintersectionoffaithandculture\/2017\/06\/james-hodgkinson-face-hate-member-resistance.html","title":{"rendered":"James Hodgkinson: The Face of Hate and Member of &#8220;the Resistance&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On June 14, a man opened fire on a group of Republican politicians and staffers who were practicing for Congress\u2019s annual baseball game.\u00a0 Before doing so, however, he was careful to verify that the men on the field were indeed Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>That man has now been identified as James Hodgkinson, 66.<\/p>\n<p>Those in the Democrat-controlled media were quick to note that Hodgkinson was white; male; and branding a gun.\u00a0 They were less ready to share with the public Hodgkinson\u2019s politics\u2014and understandably so.<\/p>\n<p>Hodgkinson, you see, was an avid supporter of Bernie Sanders who was actually part of the Vermont Senator\u2019s presidential campaign.<\/p>\n<p>He was also just as avidly\u2014or rabidly\u2014opposed to the presidency of Donald Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Hodgkinson\u2019s Facebook posts tell you all that you need to know about his political orientation.\u00a0 Readers can see for themselves <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/james.hodgkinson.568?hc_location=ufi\">here<\/a>.\u00a0 For now, a random selection of Hodgkinson\u2019s pearls will suffice to provide a glimpse into the dark recesses of his soul.<\/p>\n<p>On June 12, just two days before the now (thankfully) deceased Hodgkinson perpetrated a mass shooting, he wrote:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI Want to Say Mr. President, for being an a**h*** you are Truly the Biggest A** H*** We Have Ever Had in the Oval Office.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMake America Great Again [Trump], Resign!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump is Guilty &amp; Should Go to Prison for Treason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTrump is a Mean, Disgusting Person.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On June 8, of Georgia Republican Karen Handel, Hodgkinson said that she\u2019s a \u201cRepublican B**ch\u201d who \u201cWants People to Work for Slave Wages, when a Livable Wage is the Only Way to Go! Vote Blue, It\u2019s Right for You!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>America has been turned into a \u201cFascist State,\u201d so everyone should \u201cVote Blue, It\u2019s Right for You!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hodgkinson linked to a meme for \u201cBernie Sanders Day\u201d (which is July 26, for those of you who are interested).\u00a0 It contains tips for the ways in which observers can commemorate the failed Democrat presidential candidate.<\/p>\n<p>Just last week, Hodgkinson posted a meme featuring two gay men embracing. The caption reads: \u201cHow to solve global warming: Convince Republicans that rising temperatures are turning people gay.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Like Sanders, Hodgkinson was an <a href=\"http:\/\/heavy.com\/news\/2017\/06\/james-hodgkinson-alexandria-gop-baseball-shooter-shooting-gunman-identified-illinois\/\">unabashed proponent<\/a> of \u201cDemocratic socialism.\u201d He posted: \u201cDemocratic Socialism explained in 3 words: \u2018We the People\u2019 Since 1776.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hodgkinson links to such sites as Yahoo and MSNBC with frequency. \u00a0\u00a0A friend of his described him as \u201ca passionate progressive.\u201d Indeed he was that, for Hodgkinson implored Democrat senators to filibuster Neal Gorsuch\u2019s confirmation, impeach Trump, and \u201ctax the rich.\u201d\u00a0 He criticized Reagan-style tax cutting as \u201ctrickle-down economics,\u201d believed in anthropogenic \u201cclimate change,\u201d and called the GOP \u201cthe Taliban of America.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On May 26, Hodgkinson shared a post from \u201cRepublicans Suck.\u201d\u00a0 It read: \u201cRepublicans Hate Women, Minorities, Working Class People, &amp; Most All (99%) of the People of the Country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He was especially incensed over the GOP\u2019s substitute for Obamacare. \u201cHigher Costs &amp; Less Coverage,\u201d Hodgkinson wrote. \u201cWho Would Have Thought That the Republican Law Makers Don\u2019t Give a Damn About the Working Class in this Country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVote All Republicans Out of Office is the Start!\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Hodgkinson specifically targeted House Majority Whip and one of his shooting victims, Steve Scalise (who is now in critical condition), by sharing a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gocomics.com\/stuartcarlson\/2015\/01\/05?fb_action_ids=10205805639244110&amp;fb_action_types=og.likes&amp;fb_ref=.VKtXoHzajW8.like\">cartoon<\/a> that linked the latter to \u201cwhite supremacy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, Hodgkinson was a left-wing Democrat all of the way.\u00a0 He was a fan of Bill Maher and, especially, Rachel Maddow, going so far as to express his wish that the latter would eventually run for the presidency.<\/p>\n<p>A neighbor of Hodgkinson\u2019s, Aaron Meurer, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bnd.com\/news\/local\/article156065789.html\">said of him<\/a>: \u201cI knew he was a Democrat, a pretty hardcore one.\u00a0 I know he wasn\u2019t happy when Trump got elected [.]\u201d<\/p>\n<p>By all accounts, Hodgkinson was not \u201cmentally ill\u201d (unless, as Michael Savage long ago said, \u201cliberalism,\u201d Hodgkinson\u2019s leftist ideology, is a mental disorder\u201d). He was methodical, calculating.\u00a0 Nor is this would-be assassination the occasion to discuss \u201cgun control,\u201d as Hodgkinson\u2019s fellow travelers on the left would have us think.\u00a0 Doubtless, Hodgkinson himself was more likely than not to be a champion of \u201cgun control.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While it would be grossly unfair and inaccurate to suggest that your average leftist Democrat would so much as think to follow his example, the stone-cold fact of the matter is that Hodgkinson was nothing more or less than the anti-Trump, anti-GOP hatred of the contemporary \u201cprogressive\u201d vision taken to its extreme logical term.<\/p>\n<p>Politically speaking, Hodgkinson was indistinguishable from Chuck Schumer, Maxine Waters, Nancy Pelosi, Barack Obama, and, of course, Bernie Sanders.<\/p>\n<p>He was politically indistinguishable from every Democrat congressperson and senator who spares no occasion to demonize the Republicans in order to stall President Trump\u2019s agenda: As they cook up the Russian Conspiracy theory to paint the President as a traitor, so too did Hodgkinson specifically label Trump as such.<\/p>\n<p>Hodgkinson was politically indistinguishable from Maddow and virtually every Trump-hating, GOP-hating talking head at CNN, MSNBC, and on the major network news broadcasts.<\/p>\n<p>His Facebook screeds could\u2019ve easily appeared as editorials in the <em>New York Times, Washington Post, Daily News, Huffington Post, The Nation, Salon, Slate, <\/em>and legions of other leftist publications.<\/p>\n<p>He was politically indistinguishable from our court jesters, the Colberts, Kimmels, and Mahers.<\/p>\n<p>He was politically indistinguishable from Madonna, Kathy Griffin, Snoop Dogg, and every other Hollywood celebrity who labors inexhaustibly to vilify Republicans generally and Trump specifically.<\/p>\n<p>Hodgkinson was politically indistinguishable from the vast majority of academics who are filled with precisely the same ugly thoughts that led him to try slaughtering as many Republicans as he could.<\/p>\n<p>In short, James Hodgkinson, the \u201chard core\u201d Democrat whose murderous hatred of Trump and all things Republican drove him to try purging the planet of Republicans is now a late member of\u2026\u201cthe Resistance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This is something for all of us to keep front and center as we move forward.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On June 14, a man opened fire on a group of Republican politicians and staffers who were practicing for Congress\u2019s annual baseball game.\u00a0 Before doing so, however, he was careful to verify that the men on the field were indeed Republicans.
