In each of the following problems, a famous African-American is quoted. \u00a0Identify that person among these answer choices: (a) Jesse Jackson; (b) Jeremiah Wright; (c) Al Sharpton; (d) Louis Farrakhan; (e)Barack Hussein Obama; and (f) Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/p>\n<p><strong>(1)George Washington was undoubtedly valorous.\u00a0 \u201cBut to the end of his days he maintained a posture of exclusionism toward the slave,\u201d and he \u201cwas a fourth-generation slaveholder.\u201d Washington \u201conly allowed\u201d blacks \u201cto enter the Continental Army because His Majesty\u2019s Crown was attempting to recruit\u201d blacks \u201cto the British Cause.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(2)The black American is \u201cthe child of <em>two <\/em>cultures\u2014Africa and America.\u00a0 <em>The problem <\/em>is that in the search for wholeness all too many\u201d blacks \u201cseek to embrace only one side of their natures.\u201d\u00a0 Blacks in America are \u201cAfro-American [.]\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(3) \u201cColonialism could not have been perpetuated if the Christian Church had really taken a stand against it.\u201d\u00a0 For example, \u201cthe vicious system of apartheid in South Africa\u201d had among \u201cits chief defenders\u2026the Dutch Reformed Protestant Church.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(4) \u201cIf the Church does not participate actively in the struggle for peace and for economic and racial justice\u201d future generations will look back upon it as \u201cone of the greatest bulwarks of white supremacy.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(5) President Lyndon Banes Johnson had a \u201ccomprehensive grasp\u201d of the problems of poverty and civil rights that he faced. He had \u201csincerity,\u201d \u201crealism,\u201d and \u201cwisdom\u201d in how he approached them.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(6) Blacks, like everyone else, have \u201ca right to expect the resources of the American trade union movement to be used in assuring\u201d them \u201cof a proper place in American society.\u201d\u00a0 Young blacks especially \u201cneed to think of union careers as earnestly as they do of business careers and professions.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(7) America maintains \u201ca continued alliance\u2026with racism and exploitation throughout the world.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(8) Both Marxism and \u201ctraditional capitalism\u201d are partially true and partially false.\u00a0 The former may fail to \u201csee the truth in individual enterprise,\u201d but the latter fails to \u201csee the truth in <em>collective <\/em>enterprise.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(9) Communism was \u201ca judgment on\u201d the \u201cfailure\u201d of \u201cWestern nations\u2026to make democracy real and to follow through on the revolutions that we initiated.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(10) The \u201cpotential explosiveness of our world situation is much more attributable [than anything else] to disillusionment with promises of Christianity and technology.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(11) America \u201cis still <em>behind<\/em> European nations in all forms of social legislation.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(12) \u201cOur children are still taught to respect the violence which reduced a red-skinned people [the American Indian] of an earlier culture into a few fragmented groups herded into impoverished reservations.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(13) \u201cThe misery of the poor in Africa and Asia\u201d is the \u201cresult of years of [Western] exploitation and underdevelopment.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(14) \u201cWe in the West must bear in mind that the poor countries are poor primarily because we have exploited them through political or economic colonialism.\u00a0 Americans in particular must help their nation repent of her modern economic imperialism.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(15) If there is to be \u201cpeace on earth,\u201d people\u2019s \u201cloyalties must transcend\u201d not only \u201crace,\u201d \u201ctribe,\u201d and \u201cclass,\u201d but \u201cnation.\u201d\u00a0 This \u201cmeans [that] we must develop a world perspective.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(16) \u201cThere is nothing new about poverty.\u00a0 What is new, however, is that we now have the resources to get rid of it.\u201d\u00a0 What this implies is that the time is now \u201cfor an all-out world war against poverty.\u00a0 The rich nations must use their vast resources of wealth to develop the underdeveloped, school the unschooled, and feed the unfed.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(17) The United Nations is to be applauded, for it is the product of \u201cthe fear of war.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(18) Since \u201cthe destructive power of modern weapons eliminates even the possibility that war may serve as a negative good,\u201d those \u201cwho sincerely feel that disarmament is an evil and international negotiation is an abominable waste of time\u201d are sorely mistaken.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(19) \u201cA nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(20) America \u201cmust not only radically readjust its attitude toward\u201d blacks; it \u201cmust incorporate in its planning some compensatory compensation [\u201cAffirmative Action\u201d] from the handicaps [blacks] inherited from the past.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(21) What\u2019s necessary for combating poverty is \u201ca broad-based and gigantic Bill of Rights for the Disadvantaged, our veterans of the long siege of denial.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(22) Because America was \u201cborn in genocide,\u201d \u201cracial hatred,\u201d and \u201cracial supremacy,\u201d nothing less than \u201ca reconstruction of the entire society, a revolution of values\u201d is demanded. After all, \u201ca nation that put as many Japanese in a concentration camp as\u201d America did during World War II will think nothing of putting \u201cblack people in a concentration camp\u201d as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(23) America needs a \u201crevolution of values\u201d\u2014i.e. \u201cdemocratic socialism.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(24) The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 were \u201cat best surface changes.\u201d\u00a0 Only a \u201credistribution of economic power\u201d could rectify the injustices inherent in \u201cthe system\u201d of \u201ccapitalism.\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>(25) The Vietnam War was \u201csenseless,\u201d \u201cunjust,\u201d and \u201cracist [.]\u201d In truth, it is <em>America<\/em> that is \u201cthe greatest purveyor of violence in the world today [.]\u201d <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*Bonus Question: Which of the foregoing famous African-Americans said this about Ronald Reagan?<\/p>\n<p><strong>That a one-time \u201cHollywood performer\u201d who lacked \u201cdistinction even as an actor\u201d could\u00a0 \u201cbecome a leading war hawk candidate for the presidency\u201d had to have been due to a most \u201cmelancholy turn of events [.]\u201d\u00a0 In fact, \u201conly the irrationalities induced by a war psychosis\u201d could explain it. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If you selected \u201c(f),\u201d <em>Martin Luther King, Jr.<\/em>, as your answer to these questions, then you achieved a perfect score!<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s right: Though some word tenses were changed so as not to date the quotation in question and give away the answer, the hard truth of the matter is that, contrary to what contemporary \u201cconservative\u201d commentators would have you believe, King was obviously about as much of a conservative, to say nothing of a \u201cReagan conservative,\u201d as any of the other famous black Americans mentioned at the beginning of this article.\u00a0 His statements, in fact, reveal a man of the hard left, and certainly to the left of Barack Obama.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe truth,\u201d as Friedrich Nietzsche so simply, yet powerfully, put it, \u201cis <em>hard<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In honor of African-American History month, let\u2019s take a quiz.
