\nI think the same forces, are following the same pattern. <\/span>It began under Nixon, perhaps when Pat
\nBuchanan advocated splitting the country because they would get “the larger
\nhalf<\/a>.” <\/span>Buchanan’s faux patriotism
\nhas not changed at all<\/a> since then: he remains one of our biggest traitors successfully
\nmasquerading as a patriot.<\/p>\n
\nefforts, certain elements have never ceased in their efforts to turn Americans
\nagainst one another in their quest for power, because power, and its deepest
\nconsummation, violence, blossoms only when there is distrust and division. <\/span>How many of my readers remember Pat
\nRobertson and Jerry Fallwell’s efforts to blame Pagans, feminists, and gay<\/a>s, among others, for
\n9-11? <\/span>What would have happened to
\na Pagan temple in many cities if we were large enough to have them? <\/span>But their efforts to demonize gays,
\nfeminists, and Pagans fell short of their hopes. On balance we were too
\nfamiliar to too many.<\/p>\n
\nfocusing on Muslims: beating the drums for war with Iran, advocating overriding
\nthe Bill of Rights to stop an Islamic Cultural Center in New York, and now
\nattacking mosque construction throughout the country<\/a>. <\/span>This latest escalation proves that their supposed concern
\nfor 9-11 families (some of them were Muslims<\/a> by the way, as were some of the “First
\nResponders<\/a>” and others who thwarted terrorist efforts<\/a> in this country) was a
\nlie and a subterfuge. <\/p>\n
\nan American Reich invading and killing people posing no threat to it, people
\nthousands of miles from our shores, we cannot be allowed to think of Muslims as
\ngood people. <\/span>American Muslims must<\/i> be demonized.
\n<\/span>We must be turned against them as mindlessly and finally as brutally as
\nGermans were turned against Jews, Orthodox Serbs against Bosnian Muslims, and
\nHutus against Tutsis.<\/span><\/p>\n
\nfear and hatred of other people whether they be Pagans or feminists or gays or
\nliberals or Muslims, because that energy then can be harnessed to feed power.<\/p>\n

\nperson into a servant. The only way that overt power can remain visible
\nis by being fed, and he who knows how to make power visible end up trapped into
\nkeeping that power visible….<\/span><\/p>\n
\nof visible power must then stay in the service to that which he creates. . . .
\nTo display power is to become servile to it in a way that is extremely
\ndisempowering. This is because the service is fueled by the terror of
\nlosing the fantasy of having power.” (62-3)<\/span><\/p>\n
\nhave as a country and a culture embraced torture, kidnapping the innocent and guilty alike
\noff foreign streets, sending killers and killing machines into other countries
\nto kill the innocent and guilty alike, waged open ended war and occupation with no
\nstandard for victory, and having an all consuming fear that we must continue all this so as to
\nshow we are powerful. <\/span>This is an
\nutter degradation of our national image. Worse, those responsible have traded a
\nfree society for one abjectly servile to power, and demanding similar servility
\nfrom all its citizens. <\/span>Many,
\ncaptivated by its promise, happily serve, as did many Germans, Serbs, and <\/span>Hutus. <\/span>If we do not push back, and push back strongly, we will
\nfollow this sad well trodden path.<\/span><\/p>\n
