One is a discussion&nbsp;of the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.americablog.com\/2010\/08\/abe-foxman-at-adl-responds.htm\"> Anti-Defamation League&#8217;s hypocritical opposition <\/a>to the project over at<br \/>\nAmericablog, especially <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/abraham-h-foxman\/the-mosque-at-ground-zero_b_668020.html\">Abraham Foxman&#8217;s justification<\/a>.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The ADL&#8217;s arguments<br \/>\nexpose their underlying bigotry and refusal to grant thel respect to American Muslims that are taken for granted by American Jews.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>The other,<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/storyonly\/2010\/8\/2\/889346\/-Its-time-to-get-this-right\">at Daily Kos<\/a>,&nbsp;points out that 500,000 New Yorkers are Muslims, and last I heard the First<br \/>\nAmendment didn&#8217;t have a clause exempting them.<span>&nbsp;The opponents to the mosque and cultural center are not so subtly arguing there are two classes of Americans, Muslims and non Muslims.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">The &#8216;money quote&#8217; in the Kos piece is:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"webkit-indent-blockquote\">\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span style=\"font-size:11.0pt;font-family:Verdana;color:#1B1B1B\">If all Muslims are to be held responsible for the horrors of<br \/>\n9\/11, then all Americans are responsible for every outrage and atrocity<br \/>\nperpetrated by the Bush-Cheney administration&#8211;some of which continue to this<br \/>\nday. If all Muslims are to be held responsible for the horrors of 9\/11, then<br \/>\nall Americans are responsible for every act of bigotry and hatred perpetrated<br \/>\nby those whose reactions to 9\/11 were most irrational and extreme.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><font color=\"#1B1B1B\" face=\"Verdana\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 15px\"><br \/><\/span><\/font><br \/>\n<!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<div><font color=\"#1B1B1B\" face=\"Verdana\" size=\"4\"><span class=\"Apple-style-span\" style=\"font-size: 15px\">Perhaps we Pagans should hold the ADL responsible for the acts of genocide and terror recounted in such loving detail in the Old Testament as well? &nbsp;I believe those accounts far more blood thirsty and detailed than anything in the Koran.<\/span><\/font><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\nUPDATE<\/p>\n<div>The Atlantic has an important piece on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/national\/archive\/2010\/08\/if-he-could-bin-laden-would-bomb-the-cordoba-initiative\/60833\/\">who is behind the proposed mosque<\/a> and community center in NYC. &nbsp;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>UPDATE 2<\/div>\n<div>New York Jewish organizations<a href=\"http:\/\/www.samefacts.com\/2010\/08\/religion-and-politics\/name-change\/\"> are coming out in favor<\/a> of the Islamic cultural center in the neighborhood of the former World Trade Center. &nbsp;Unlike conservatives opposed to the center and others pushing agendas unrelated to religious freedom and good will, these people know what they are talking about. &nbsp;Not that it will stop the lies &#8211; but it may strengthen the will of those holding American values seriously and not as slogans.<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATE UPDATE 2 Two more interesting pieces have appeared concerning the proposal to build a Muslim cultural center and mosque a few blocks from the 9-11 site.
