I have just read and then printed
\nout for further study a fascinating article Stephan Schwarz<\/a> alerted me to by Hanna Rosin on “The
\nEnd of Men<\/a>.”  <\/span>The article starts
\nout with an account of the strange things now happening when families get to choose
\nthe gender of their child.  <\/span>When
\nthis technology first arose people worried that it would lead to  <\/span>a serious disproportion of male babies
\nbecause world wide, people wanted sons more than they wanted daughters.  <\/span>It turns out it didn’t happen that
\nway.  <\/span><\/p>\n

\n<\/p>\n

Requests for
\nfemale babies now vastly outnumber requests for male babies.  <\/span><\/p>\n

Something very
\ndeep is taking place in American society – and apparently other societies as
\nwell.  <\/span>Even in ultra macho
\nJapan.  <\/span>I hope these tid-bits have
\nencouraged you to read the article.<\/p>\n

Rosin’s piece
\ngives us a new vantage point on the rise of NeoPaganism and the Goddess
\nreligions.  <\/span>First taking off in the
\nlate 60s, NeoPaganism then helped inspire the efforts by Christian, Jewish, and
\nBuddhist women to raise the status of women and the Divine Feminine within their
\nown spiritual traditions.  <\/span>As I
\nresearched the writings of these women over and over again I found Starhawk
\nmentioned as an important force in their thinking.  Other feminist Pagans, such as Z Budapest, also receives frequent praise.  <\/span>My guess is that future historians will regard Starhawk
\nas an important spiritual force in America. One cutting across many faiths.<\/p>\n

Rosin also notes
\nan equally fascinating rise in what she terms ruthless “alpha women,” and even
\nwomen murderers.  Her observation led me to reflect how t<\/span>hat bastion of
\npretend maleness, the Religious Right and its ‘conservative’ Teabagger contingent, has given us
\na number of the former, from Sarah Palin to Carly Fiorina and Meg Whitman.  <\/span>These women remind us that being female
\nand exhibiting feminine traits are not the same, but that they are appearing in the bastion of faux masculinity is telling.  <\/span><\/p>\n

<\/span>If as appears to be the case women are
\nmoving increasingly into dominant positions, an interesting experiment in human culture will be
\ntaking place.  <\/span>Given that so much
\nof American society is rooted in hierarchy and domination (except on Fourth of
\nJuly speeches when freedom and equality briefly receive their praise) will women become as infatuated with power and domination as men
\nare prone to, or will they moderate it?<\/p>\n

If Robert
\nSapolsky’s story of female initiated lasting cultural changes in baboon society<\/a>  can be applied to human society, on balance this shift in the relative status
\nof men and women will be very good indeed for the human race.  <\/span><\/p>\n
