Spread the Word"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">On Memorial Day I drove down to Marin County to meet with a<br \/>\nnumber of representatives from other religions to discuss what we might be able<br \/>\nto do together to promote a more sustainable relationship with the earth.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>We were searching for something that<br \/>\nwould not simply duplicate what others were doing, and might make a difference<br \/>\nin people&#8217;s understanding of this issue.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><br \/>\n<!--StartFragment--><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">We came up with the idea of a Fall Festival, celebrating the<br \/>\nseason and the earth and our relation to it from the perspective of our various<br \/>\nfaith traditions.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>Our idea is to<br \/>\ncombine a spiritual celebration with some kind of service work.<span>&nbsp;&nbsp;Hopefully each faith tradition can contribute something in keeping with their own practice.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\"><span>With respect to service, m<\/span>y own bias would be to work with the<br \/>\nState Parks Dept at helping eliminate some infestation of invasive plants.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>That also fits the symbolism of that<br \/>\ntime of year.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>But we&#8217;ve just begin<br \/>\nthinking about the festival.<span>&nbsp;<br \/>\n<\/span>Hopefully we can have a celebratory dimension as well.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>As Her charge goes, &#8220;reverence and<br \/>\nmirth&#8221; and the other traditions who will work on this project also have nothing<br \/>\nagainst having a good time.<span>&nbsp; <\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\">One of the long-term signs of hope in today&#8217;s America is the<br \/>\nnumber of faith traditions that are coming to a realization that the earth is<br \/>\nworthy of respect and care, that it is more than simply a storehouse of resources<br \/>\nfor human whims.<span>&nbsp; <\/span>I think we Pagans<br \/>\nhave a great deal to offer in encouraging this welcome trend.<\/p>\n<p><!--EndFragment--><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Memorial Day I drove down to Marin County to meet with a number of representatives from other religions to discuss what we might be able to do together to promote a more sustainable relationship with the earth.&nbsp; We were searching for something that would not simply duplicate what others were doing, and might make&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[109,20],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-603","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-environment","category-interfaith"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<title>Interfaith Fall Festivals . . .
