{"id":601,"date":"2010-05-31T11:32:14","date_gmt":"2010-05-31T11:32:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.beliefnet.com\/apagansblog\/2010\/05\/bp-sociopathy-and-its-implications-for-nature.html"},"modified":"2010-05-31T11:32:14","modified_gmt":"2010-05-31T11:32:14","slug":"bp-sociopathy-and-its-implications-for-nature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.beliefnet.com\/columnists\/apagansblog\/2010\/05\/bp-sociopathy-and-its-implications-for-nature.html","title":{"rendered":"BP Sociopathy and its Implications for Nature"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>UPDATE below<\/b><\/p>\n<div><b>UPDATE 2 &nbsp;below<br \/><\/b><\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b><\/b>Over the past several years I have slowly come to the conclusion that corporations should not be allowed, ever, to engage in activities that require ethical relations with the other than human world. &nbsp;No owning of agricultural land, forests, fishing for salmon, owning of fish farms, off shore drilling, none of that. &nbsp;There are plenty of human beings able to do these things who have the moral complexity to make tradeoffs impossible for corporate sociopaths. &nbsp;And there is no ambiguity as to why will lose big time if they break the law.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>I think a Pagan view of the world strongly supports this conclusion. &nbsp;We know the world is much more than a collection of resources for human use.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>As further evidence that corporations are as able to handle these kinds of issues as a serial child molester is able to run a day care service, here are three new accounts of BP&#8217;s utter lack of anything we would regard as humanity.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>First, BP trucked in 400 workers to be working at clean up when Obama arrived. &nbsp;They&nbsp;<br \/>\n<!--StartFragment--><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:ArialMT\"><a href=\"http:\/\/thinkprogress.org\/2010\/05\/29\/bp-buses-workers\/\"><span style=\"color:#411478\"><span>&nbsp;<\/span>trucked them<br \/>\nout again<\/span><\/a><\/span><!--EndFragment-->&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;as soon as he left.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Second, Tony Hayward, the thug who runs BP is now&nbsp;<br \/>\n<!--StartFragment--><span style=\"font-size:12.0pt;font-family:ArialMT\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2010\/05\/30\/underwater-oil-plumes-dis_n_595015.html\"><span style=\"color:#411478\">questioning whether the undersea plumes exist<\/span><\/a>.<span>&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><!--EndFragment--><br \/>\n&nbsp;&#8211; despite the testimony of local scientists at universities all around the area. &nbsp;Of course, similar tactics worked with global warming deniers.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>Third, when a fisherman who had been working on clean up without respirators went to the hospital, BP&nbsp;<br \/>\n<!--StartFragment--><span><a href=\"http:\/\/edition.cnn.com\/2010\/HEALTH\/05\/31\/oil.spill.order\/index.html?hpt=T1\">seized his clothing<\/a><\/span><!--EndFragment-->&nbsp;<br \/>\n&nbsp;and refused to return it &#8211; evidence &#8220;disappeared.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><b><br \/><\/b><\/div>\n<div><b>UPDATE<\/b>:<\/div>\n<div>Now we know<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dailykos.com\/storyonly\/2010\/5\/31\/871613\/-BP-blames-cleanup-worker-sickness-on-food-poisoning\"> why BP has removed the evidenc<\/a>e. &nbsp;These people need jail time and the corporation needs to die.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><b>UPDATE 2:<\/b><\/div>\n<div>And BP KNEW that their dispersant would form plumes underwater<a href=\"http:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/GMA\/bp-gulf-oil-spill-cut-clean-criminal-investigation\/story?id=10803907\"> long long before<\/a> Tony Hayward lied that there were no plumes. &nbsp;Jail time for Hayward should be a minimal result of his fraud to the people of this country.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UPDATE below UPDATE 2 &nbsp;below Over the past several years I have slowly come to the conclusion that corporations should not be allowed, ever, to engage in activities that require ethical relations with the other than human world. &nbsp;No owning of agricultural land, forests, fishing for salmon, owning of fish farms, off shore drilling, none&hellip;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[111,109],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-601","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-current-events","category-environment"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v23.9 -
